i never keep track i'm just guessing sam had an huge op on his leg, xena nearly die on me when her spleen pop or whatever happen, number of x rays for both, just small things over the years
Re: vet bills
When Biscuit was having her cancer treatment I spent thousands! But in the 2 years since adoption she's only been to the vets once for sarcoptic mange which was £90! Apart from that just vaccinations/wormer etc been very lucky she's a tough ol' boot

Re: vet bills
To date I think we have claimed about £500? I've lost track! Thank goodness for insurance but now that we have him sorted for his allergies fingers crossed he will be a healthy pup from here on out He is pretty robust!
Steve is that £4k for all three?

Re: vet bills
That's the thing I think janey Darcy has been lots in the first year with allergies and ear infections, but it never exceeded my excess so I've always payed it! But I would never not insure, we've probs spent 200/300 in 20 months xx

Re: vet bills
In Flo's first year with me she cost me in excess of £5000. To be fair one vets visit was my fault entirely cos she ate a large bar of choc that I left out.
The rest has been down to her issues with nibbling

Re: vet bills
Not sure, our insurance is amazing and our vets are really reasonable. The most has probably been on spaying and neutering. When Vin had sarcoptic they gave him shots which really weren't that much.
The two are off for their annual check up on the weekend but I'm not too worried about the cost of that.

Re: vet bills
Ledger is insured and only used it when a broken tooth (from before I rescued him) needed removing, excess was half of what the bill was apart from that just the annual vaccines, and added kennel cough this year so was £50 - his flea and work treatments we get from an online vet supplies so considerably cheaper than over the counter

Re: vet bills
I did'nt renew my insurance for Stella last October.
She had been insured all her life with Saga who were brilliant. Paid out without problems including two major leg ops. numerous lump removals and skin scrapes for her allergies. Also arthritis treatment.
As your dog gets older premiums rise and when they reach 7 they are classed as mature (nonsense). An increase each year, and last year's
renewal came in at £63.50 per month plus £75 excess per condition within the policy year PLUS 13% extra anything over the £75. Phwww!!
She had lifetime cover which she needed with her arthritis.
I worked it out by saving £65 per month in a savings account, and buying her meds direct over the internet, this is much cheaper. My vets charge me for a prescription but internet prices are half the cost that the vet charges.
I know that health problems may arise in the future, but Stella is 13 now and I don't think she would survive any major surgery. I decided to take that risk.
On a side note, Stella had her 3monthly check up this morning at the vets and passed with flying colours. £46 for check up and prescription. Paid out of her savings!!

Re: vet bills
Thank you ill check it tomorrow she don't really need it at moment but you never know in life and if I manage to find something reasonable like yours Hayley ill do it. Better safe than sorry especially after watching supervet last week they said for example that MRI for dogs is £1000 for 1 scan.
Ian what insurance are you using? You seem to know a lot about it.

Re: vet bills
We are currently with Petplan but that is becoming expensive and renewal is due next month so will be looking at those that have been suggested here.

I think it is well worth shopping around but also consider what the policy is offering. Most definately worth looking at whole life cover as a condition that lasts whole life could cost a fortune if not insured for it. Hopefully it will never be needed but you never know. Also check what excess would need to be paid. The higher the excess the lower the premium usually but work it out carefully as you could end up paying too much in excess making the insurance only worthwhile for major incidents.
When you say you're not insured at the moment be careful, accidents can happen very easy, my Flo ate a bar of Dark choc one night and needed 24 hospitalisation

To be honest, I don't think it would make much difference. But an interesting question and would love to hear if anyone knows.
Flo might turn into a cross if its cheaper

Re: vet bills
The girls that I worked with in kennels always said to put them down as cross breeds with defining staffie traits. Biscuit is down as a cross, I can't get 3rd party insurance for her anyway because she was known to be aggressive before I adopted her. But I only pay £10 per month for health insurance with animal friends

Re: vet bills
When we were looking, putting a cross was much cheaper than Staffy pure bread...I think cross was about £12 and Staffy was around £20 on the comparison sites.
As we can't be sure of what he is, he is down as a crossbreed with Staffy being the most obvious breed which makes it more expensive than just "crossbreed" grrr
