Swallowing of sponge.
I hope somebody can help. While busy in the garden yesterday Suki (8mnts old) picked up a dishwashing sponge lying next to me and started running around with it. She did not want to come closer and after chasing her for a couple of minutes she swallowed it. I can not say whether she chew it or not. I phoned the Vet and he told me Ive got 2 options, have her operated straight away or keep a eye on her for 24 hours. Its now 14 hours later and I can not see any change in her behaviour or eating habits. Can anybody give me advice.

I wouldn't panic too much if she's still eating and drinking has she been to the toilet yet? Just keep an eye on her

Re: Swallowing of sponge.
No sighn of sponge yet but I can say she is eating and acting normally. Was lucky enough to see her making a normal poo which tells me her stomach is functioning right. Guess I will have to wait another day or 2.

Re: Swallowing of sponge.
Whilst it's always best to be cautious, I've known of Labradors in kennels to eat all sorts from reels of selotape to socks to carrier bags! They usually pass through within a few days.. But obviously that's not always the case. Biscuit loves sponges, she just shreds them though, don't think she's ever swallowed any! Hope she's okay

Re: Swallowing of sponge.
My OH used to have an English Bull Terrier. He ate a lightbulb , he also ate a Foster's tin as well but both times he was okay... not that I'd recommend it!

Re: Swallowing of sponge.
keep checking that poo though as it needs to pass through a sponge wont desolve but wont look like a sponge on exit! my last dog ate a shoe buckle and strap that made its way out

Re: Swallowing of sponge.
Hi everybody, forgot to tell you, 8 days after swallowing the sponge Suki vomited it out but before I could go outside I saw her licking it of and eating it again. However I was very delighted to to find a sponge poo the next day. Never been so interested in dog poo for 9 days.
