biting my 4 year old
I know hes he a puppy and hes gonna nip, just wanted some advice really, my son is to blame most of the time im really having to sit down and talk to him about it because hes being annoying sometimes, and I dont want loki to feel negative towards him and want to bite him when hes older.... ive managed to stop Eli from running away when loki went to nip as loki thought that was hilarious and chased him!! We dont have anywhere we can time out because I dont want to use the pen as a negative space. But ive just be pushing him away and ignoring him I thought id got it yesterday he mouthed my hand but put no pressure, but then this morning hes back to biting again...he creeps after hes been told off and tries to come over and crawl in under my arms...anymore helpful tips would be appreciated.

A firm 'naughty', point your finger (later you can use finger pointing to calm behaviour without verbal), & if it continues separation ie 5 mins in laundry. I found the baby gates made awesome barriers for time out in laundry etc Be consistent & it will pay off

Re: biting my 4 year old
Stair gates are a great idea, but this play biting isn't going to end any time soon so think it would be best to work with your little one to help train Loki too. Everybody needs to be consistent and low arousal when he gets into play mode, or as you've noticed any screaming/running/giggling will only make him more excited. Any time he nips try the yelping and turn away method initially, this doesn't work for all dogs so if unsuccessful move onto a "no" or "ah" (I try to only use no for reeeeally naughty behaviour) and then redirect the mouthing onto a suitable toy. He can only interact with his mouth so he's not being naughty, but obviously it hurts and should be discouraged.

No I know, and I know there isnt any aggression in it, hes just getting too excited and unfortunetly my son is the right height to pick on ahaha!! Yeah he doesnt respond to the yelping thing, if anything he it makes him worse so ive just been telling him no if he bites and then pushing him away, because as soon as I say no he comes over and starts creeping ahah.

Here is a link that should help. It takes some time and consistancy but they do get it. Also be aware that if you are on the floor with the pup he will think you are a playmate.

Re: biting my 4 year old
My mum's dog used to be a real pain for nipping, she used to carry a toy around with her and put that in his mouth every time he nipped it worked really well so maybe something you could try

Re: biting my 4 year old
Alfie used to be a nightmare for coming and nipping my legs whilst I was sat working so I would always keep a stash of toys next to me so whenever he came along and tried to nip me I would shove a toy in his mouth so he could learn to chew that instead of my leg! Seemed to work really well. The yelp and ignore didn't really work for us either, so it was just a firm 'no' and a time out xx

Re: biting my 4 year old
I feel your pain. Or, I should say, my kids feel your kid's pain ;-)
It gets better. It still happens but way less often and way less persistent. I had to get my girls to stop squealing and use a stern voice. We practiced as if it were a dance move.
When Valentine nips...
Make a phst sound, say no biting,
Turn and ignore ( grab the squirt bottle).
If she goes in for round two we repeat but the phst sound is accompanied by a squirt between the eyes.
She picked up quick.
I also had to talk to them about running up to her and being grabby. The temptation is just too much.
