urgent advise needed
hi everyone. not had a chance to introduce myself and say hi yet as i only just found this site whilst trying to look for answers.
i have 2 staffs called bully and boo. we rescued boo from some bad neighbours last yr and we was told she was incapable of having pups so both of our dogs have been kept together. things is to our suprise boo had 3 puppies on sunday afternoon, delivered and is nursing them herself without any problems but this morning she has just had 3 more 2 of which have died but the 3rd is ok and alive but boo is keeping it seperate to the older ones and doesnt seem to be interested in letting it feed. its been over 3 hrs now so im very concerned for its wellbeing. whilst im waiting to see if i can get an advance on my monthly wage to consult a vet (could take up to 3 days) can anyone pls advise me on what to do? thankyou in advance. carl

Re: urgent advise needed
a vet really has a duty of care towards the dog and should also set up a payment plan for you . are you already registered with a vet ? if so it shouldnt be a prob . i had a litter of pups last year , dakota had 8 pups no probs then a 9th got stuck and she had to be sectioned . seems to me a long time between the two lots of pups , i would go to a vets incase ther might be more in there which could kill the mother

Re: urgent advise needed
oh, poor dear. Yep, agreed.......get a vet to see her and the pups to assess the whole situation and offer help/advice. Better to be safe than sorry

Re: urgent advise needed
Blaze is completely right, if there was that big gap between the puppies then it is likely that there might even be another one in there. This could cause septicimea (sp?) and your bitch and puppies could die.
I'm sure the vets will work out a payment plan with you where you can pay a certain amount each week or something. It is very important you take mum and the pup she wont care for to the vets. Chances are you might have to hand rear the latest arrival as she is rejecting it, also her colostrum (another sp i reckon!) will have been drunk by the other puppies so you might need to get some in powder form from the vets. Good luck, and make sure you feed your girl lots of high-protein foods, she need it to produce milk. Also cottage cheese can give her a calcium boost. Your going to have to read like crazy now to learn about raising puppies, get 'the book of the bitch' if you can.

Re: urgent advise needed
thankyou everyone. im taking boo and her full liter to the vets in the morning for a checkover. been busy this afternoon buying a small cushion bed, a microwave heat pad, milk formular and a bottle feeder. the pup seemed to be really weak by the time i had got back home but after a few hrs of tlc its picked up loads. i have just 5 mins ago tried to reintroduce it to the rest of the pack and its now suckling well onto its mum. il be checking back in on them every half hour or so to make sure everythings ok. maybe i should of just let nature take its course or it needed my tlc to boost its appatite im not sure and i dont think il ever find out but so far im pleased with the result

Make sure the little one latches onto mum (physically open her mouth onto the nipple) and the others dont push her out of the way, stay while she feeds and do this as often as possible and im sure before u no it she will be the one pushing the others out the way lol x

Re: urgent advise needed
not long got back and alls good. apparently the delay in birth with the pups could of been that 1 was stuck but boo looked very fine to me just seemed to be tyred. in some rare cases sometimes pups can be born a few days apart. anyways all puppies are now sexed 2 boys and 2 girls and all 4 are being looked after by mum got to take either boo or her litter back without any delay if i feel the need to but boos going back in next week for another check up. prices wasnt as bad as i expected either

Re: urgent advise needed
Some pups just can't make it. Sad, but that's nature for you.
It's good that Boo & Bully are still getting on well, though I doubt she'd like him near her pups at the moment!

Re: urgent advise needed
im unsure if shed let bully near her litter or not. shes always took role of the leader since we had her and bullys just a big wet softy, even though she let me show him the pups and i think all would be good i still dont think i can chance it just incase no matter how good there relationship is
