Slightly panicked, need reassurance! Empty Slightly panicked, need reassurance!

So we've started Rubio on a raw diet a few days ago because commercial stuff just didn't seem to be agreeing with him, and I'm pleased to say it's been great so far!

I started him on a few different things other than the usual chicken route but tonight I gave him a frozen chicken thigh for the first time. The problem is he appears to have pretty much swallowed it whole! Should I be worried?! I'm slightly concerned the bones in it will be too big or not able to be digested

It should be fine, they just tend to crunch them a few times then swallow  Smile their stomachs are far more acidic than ours so can dissolve quite big chunks

That's the thing - I don't think he crunched anything at all! I think he just swallowed the whole thigh. I was watching him and I literally looked away for a few seconds and he was finished despite having the whole lot left!

If it is too big or difficult to digest they will usually bring it up chew a bit more and try again, not the most pleasant to watch, tbh Ledger has only done it once when he ate too fast takes his time now

If it was causing any pain or discomfort it would have come back up again Smile If you think he is isn't chewing enough, try giving him bigger pieces that he can't swallow whole so he will have to chew more, or if possible, hold the other end of the chicken drummer/thigh to make him chew it.

Thanks guys, all seems fine so far. He'd coughed something up and eaten it again sometime in the night, however.

When I tried giving Marquez rabbit the first time, he brought it all right back up and I mistakenly thought it was vomit. I have since learnt that some dogs initially regurgitate and then re-eat it with no problem. I figured this out when I tried the rabbit again the other day and he regurgitated it again but went right back in to eat it all and lick the floor clean. I think his problem was not chewing it properly and trying to swallow it whole. Since then he has figured out how to eat rabbit, chews it all properly and no regurgitation Big Grin
