Meet super friendly Leia. Just like her Star Wars name-sake she has been in the wars a bit but you would never know from her loving temperament. Leia will wag her tail and wriggles her bum when she sees you and she just loves cuddles on the sofa. She is a very affectionate girl who is also very bright. She is very alert and will bark when she hears noises. Leia just loves company and would not like to be left for long periods of time. She adores the company of other dogs.
The word that comes up most when talking about Leia is “happy”. Leia has had an operation on her right back leg as it was broken - this has been pinned and is currently healing. She is on Metacam daily at the moment. This has had an impact on her training but she is coming along well. She has been doing small amounts of lead training due to not being able to walk far, but she does not pull, she walks nicely but being a puppy this would be something her adopters will continue with. Due to her young age she would benefit from ongoing training in all areas, but is fully house trained and comes when called even if she is busy playing with the other dogs. She sits when told and also for food and treats.
Leia has shown no signs of separation anxiety, but has not left for long. She has other dogs with her for company and is crated at night time. She is happy to be left in her crate for short periods during the day too. She has shown no destructive behaviour at all, has no inclination to scale the garden fences, and is not dominant with food or toys. She is happy to share her toys and also will leave other dogs’ toys. She loves to play ball and also play with raggy ropes. She will let other dogs share out of her bowl and will sit nicely and wait her turn for her treats.
Leia is happy to be touched and lets you clean her ears, eyes and wipe her feet and trim nails – there are no problems with any areas. Leia likes her trips to the vets and is happy in the vets waiting area and in the vets room. She doesn’t mind being examined and handled. She loves the car and travels very well. Leia is very sociable with everyone she meets but hasn’t met any children yet.
Leia is very sociable with dogs of both sexes. She likes to play and sniff and is not afraid when other dogs meet her. She is not worried about other dogs barking or growling and takes it all in her stride. She is a very sociable dog and would ideally be homed with other dogs for company. Leia is also sociable with her foster family’s 2 kittens, who are 4 months old and plays nicely, without chasing them. She would be fine homed with kittens/cats as long as they are dog friendly. Leia is sensitive to raised voices – such as if you call someone from another room.
Leia is looking for a home with other dogs and a home where someone will be with her, not a home where she is the only dog or people are out at work for long periods of time. She would be best suited in a home where she can have space to play as she enjoys this more than anything. A home where she can relax that isn’t too busy with lots of people would be ideal. Leia is very happy to be with human company and loves nothing more than cuddles on the sofa. She is very playful so her new owners would have to watch how much she exercises and due to her leg operation - this could be an ongoing problem and new owners should be fully aware of this.
Leia is vaccinated, wormed, flea treated, neutered and micro-chipped. Prospective adopters will be expected to travel to meet her in his foster home in Gloucester.
