Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
My god son (3) told me recently that he would like Rupert more if he were "blonde".
I've heard people in the States say that black dogs are harder to rehome because of their colour:

Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
is this becasue it there more black/brindle dog around then other colours?
Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
yes ive heard that to! i think its to do with their features dont stand out aswell as many of the other coloured dogs, and eyes etc so people tend to pass them by especially large black dogs! people see a black dog as more aggressive. it seems to be a true fact

Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
Yup! When I was in shelters the lighter colour would always be chose over the darker. Brindle staffies were always the most common dogs in there (I love them, if I could choose a colour I'd have brindle.) If we had a call for a stray dog we'd have beta and 9/10 it would be a dark brindle! It's worse with cats though, have known of black cats to be in shelters for years, only to be PTS because no-one wants that colour.

Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
I've never thought R was beautiful, but his soul is and adopting him has taught me never ever to go for a dog on the basis of what they look like.
I always think of brindle as different from black. I know that people think of it as more "feral" - not a "proper" colour, street dog and all that.
Brindle is very handy around the house, though. R's coat never shows up a single spec of dust.
Interesting that, from a child's perspective, "blonde" is "nicer." Maybe that's just my godson.

Yes our first rescue dog was black and tan and now we have a brindle staffy. I have heard that before. I much prefer darker dogs in general

Yes I've heard this too. I don't understand, why on earth would so many people not like a certain coloured dog?! I love black dogs, but then I love them all.

Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
Calvin is a dark brindle rescue. he was chosen as he was suitable for a first time dog owner and has a sweet nature and laid back personality. Maya is also a dark brindle rescue though we thought she has pure black with a small white patch at first, only noticed her brindle bits in the sunshine. She was chosen because my OH saw her being walked by a volunteer and he fell in love, if she didn't get on with Calvin then we would not have chosen to adopt her as that was the number 1 priority. Both had been in for several months and had been overlooked until we went to visit and chose them. I think the longest stay staffies in the centre atm are both white but one has black patches.

I've heard of it and statistically it's true. The same with cats although in some countries a black cat is seen as lucky

Re: Do you believe in Black Dog Syndrome?
Snoop was a dark brindle and when we were going to pick a pup. It was a black male with a white star patch on his chest i was going for. Only i took my daughter and sister and they fall in love with Lula. My daughter picked Lula out and would not put her down. I was still tempted to get the chunky male but could only afford the one
