Me, Eddie and the rescued hurricane!!
Hi guys!
Sorry I haven't posted since my intro post, but times has flown by and with an untrained 8 month old pup I literally haven't had time to even go to the loo on my own!!!
So many questions, confusions, set backs and leaps forward that maybe I should have come on here to ask them one by one but I will start with the basic and main problem!!! I've broken both the dogs!!!!! lol
When we picked up Lola about 6 weeks ago she was fine on the lead and didn't pull on walks, everything else was problematic but never walks! My 8 yr old Eddie whilst always pulling me on walks unless off lead (then he'd walk to heal!?!?!) he was a very well behaved ideal dog! To a point where all my friends that have had babies have bought them to us to introduce them to a calm and safe dog, something I've always been proud of!
6 weeks in all has changed dramatically! After about 10 days Eddie realised she wasn't going home and he would have to man up and put a stop to her randomly bouncing on his head or ramming him expectantly, he started to 'fight' back (no blood or broken skin, just asserting his place in pack!) whilst this is noisy and rather frustrating when its virtually non stop I know it will calm down as soon as she does!
Anyway off on a tangent (bear with me, I'm on meds and tend to wander and gabble a lot! ) She now pulls on the lead, I've tried walking them separately (which isn't ideal as my illnesses mean I have limited mobility!) but they both still pull! I tried taking him first and then her and vice versa but no change! I tried walking them together and ended up flat on my back in frustration! Me and my hubby have walked them together, tried him with hubby and me with her and the other way round but still she pulls! I've tried a plain collar, a hardness, a half choke and, much to my dislike but needs must (and I really need her to NOT pull me over again!!) a full choke chain collar but no difference! If I try to walk them together they both vie for lead position dragging my sorry butt behind them! I must look like a deranged woman flying down the street and then digging my heels in and stopping whilst they understand and come back to sit! But I find myself doing that every 4 or 5 paces! Then when we get to the dog friendly rec ground I let Eddie off to throw a ball (she doesn't come to call yet so not even gonna try that one!) but when he brings it back she makes a grab for it and they start fighting over possession! Another problem that has arisen.....if one has a toy/chew the other wants it, I buy 2 identical products and it doesn't matter they still want what the other has!
I've resorted to taking her to doggy school to a lady who specialises in rescued large dogs, I take her for a 30 minute walk before hand and whilst in class (well the 1st 45 minutes anyway then she gets bored!!) she is as good as gold! Listens, walks to heel, obeys commands and picks things up really quickly. As does Eddie is Lola isn't about! Its when they're together, neither listens or obeys! He was supposed to be a good influence on her but all they've done is adjust their attitudes, he now acts like he's forgotten the basics (i.e. he'll beg for food and even snap at our hands to get it....which has NEVER happened!!) and she's learnt that all food is ours till we tell her but won't listen, pulls on walks and has even started 'answering' back (i.e. I told her to Go On Her Bed the other week, she is being caged trained, so she jumped on top of the cage...cocked her head to 1 side and quietly 'woofed' at me!!)
I didn't realise that having 2 dogs would be so much hard work, not that I wouldn't have rescued her if I was able to go back and change things! After all she would almost undoubtedly not be alive today and she is so loving and beautiful, when she is calm and cuddly! Any advice on how I can get both dogs to behave civilised.....especially on walks etc! Bearing in mind I cannot do miles of walking myself, so am limited to ways to wear them out!
Sorry this ended up as a rather long post and I did sidetrack away from the point, but hey as my hubby would say......you're the lucky ones! He has to actually live and listen to my inane gibbering!! Lol!! xxxxx

Re: Me, Eddie and the rescued hurricane!!
My goodness, sounds like you are having a bit of a nightmare! I haven't had two dogs together so not much help I'm afraid but hopefully others will have some advise. Don't know if this will help?

Re: Me, Eddie and the rescued hurricane!!
Sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. Never had more than one dog at a time so cant help there.
Alfie pulls a lot and we use a Halti head collar with a double ended lead attached to this and his harness. He does still pull but not as strongly.
There are lots on here with 2 dogs, Im sure someone will be along soon
