First time off the lead!

Hi all think im going to let beau off the lead today she listening to a few commands but still worried she will bolt off when she sees other dogs and people she get over excited not in a nasty way but other dogs don't see it that way ive got her on a flexi lead and my knuckles am dragging on the floor so to days the day shes set free wish me luck (think I'll need it ) will let you all no how we get on 

How exciting... for Beau!!! I did this only recently with my boy but had my OH there so he could get him! Can't wait to hear how it goes!!

I let Toots off for the first time last week and she was brilliant. Came back every time I called her.
Still haven't chanced it with other dogs around though!

Good luck! The trick is to make yourself exciting. If it looks like beau is distracted try squealing or clapping and run in the opposite direction this always works with axl. Also take a ball or find a stick that usually keeps their attention on you. Have fun! X

Oh and don't forget the treat every time beau comes back

Ooo good luck with Beau! Bane is still terrible at recall so we keep him on a long training lead most of the time

How did you get on? I would also suggest a long training line until recall is 100%, its not you dog but if they run up to another dog who is DA and you don't have control then disaster can happen, seen it for myself.

I never left home (and still dont) without small party sausage's. You get 25 for about £1 and if Ronnie knows I have them he comes back everytime. Just 2 of them broken up in my pocket. His recall word is sausage...

He knows whats in my pocket is more tasty than the dog on the other side of the field. Yes he has is ignorant days but with sausage's in pocket Im quite confident

He likes them chopped up in his kong aswell.

If you can try taking Beau to a quiet place where there is hardly any chance of seeing anyone else, & see how she goes. Hope it all goes well for you both.

Well it didn't go to plan too many people and dogs about and I wasn't 100% so back to the training lead for a bit beau seemed a bit edgy as you no dogs ain't daft or she sensed my bottle had gone which it had really!  

Best to wait until the time is right xx

Good call, wait til the circumstances are right and you're comfy or she'll pick up on the bad vibe. I take Koda to a very large park early in the morning before anyone gets there and I let him off the lead to chase my OH and vice versa. Last weekend we let him off without making him chase us and he bolted, straight for the road (fair way away but he rockets along !) I had my heart in my throat and ONLY got him back safely when my OH squealed and ran in the opposite direction - he suddenly thought it was a game and was interested again. It does take time and a lot of patience, something I don't have !!!! GOOD LUCK you will get there you know you will x
