raw diet tummy troubles
we are feeding peppa mostly raw now for a while and and shes thriving: 12.5 kg at 5.5 months no fat at all just muscle and shiny fur.and lovelly and lean
on the last 3 days she was given mostly chicken backs for the 1st time that she loved and also a lamb heart and chicken liver that she had before.all fresh. yesterday night she had bad diarrhea and also wake us up to take her out at 4am with very bad runs and than no toilet at all till 4pm today runny again. we only give her chicken backs today cause we thought it was the liver as she didnt want to eat it only had some later when we left it in her bowl when usually her food disappears in a sec. what should we give her for her next meal? should we stick with raw or give her her dry food ? could it be the combination of the two although we always give dry/raw at least 8 hours apart .how long does it normally takes a puppy to adjust to raw if at all?we never had food problems with her before. what do you think causes the runs? shes behaving normally otherwise we dont want to make her sick.

Re: raw diet tummy troubles
If she's not eating she might be feeling a little bit under the weather, maybe try her on some scrambled egg for her next meal.
The only other thing I can think is the liver, how much liver did she have? At first you only need to give very tiny pieces.

I agree with saz it could be the liver I never gave Darcy liver for the 1st month and even now it can occasionally give her bum gravy

She's got good appetite but I think it is the liver from her reaction to it although she had some before. I'm thinking of giving her sardines for dinner. Tnx for your help

Re: raw diet tummy troubles
Before we went raw my mum used to give Daisy cooked liver sometimes because she makes it for her dogs, it always gave Daisy a runny bum so I had to tell her to stop! Raw liver is fine though but I did start with really tiny pieces and build it up gradually. We have only just started giving her the weeks liver in one go and we've been raw for 6 months!

Re: raw diet tummy troubles
Excuse my ignorance, I do not feed Raw but I am considering the switch and researching as much as possible.
Should the food not be frozen (and optionally thawed) before being fed?

Re: raw diet tummy troubles
we had bad experience with chicken liver both raw and cooked.bad runs. shes not getting anymore for a good while now. maybe when shes 80. lol
maybe its a good idea to freeze meat for 48 hours before giving it to her but i really dont know i give her mostly fresh meat from the butcher but also frozen the only thing i can say for sure is that she definitely prefers
the raw diet on kibbles.
