Took a walk to the rescue today
Saw a pic on their Facebook page of a small white Staffy called Daisy and as its only 1.6 miles from my parents I decided to take Ledger for a wander up there to see the set up. As I got there one of the dog walkers was getting back with a collie and she offered to get Daisy and walk her alongside Ledger
She is a tiny girl despite the noise coming from the kennel neither dog showed much interest in each other Ledger had a couple of sniffs of her rear end as we walked a bit later along she turned to greet Ledger nose to nose and he told her off but they continued on alongside as I chatted with the walker and no issues.
She has only been there a week so hasn't really been tested with other dogs but figure a calm reaction between the two is good. They are more than happy for me to go back with or without Ledger as much as I want to walk her and they do week trials before confirming adoptions but I would really need to be sure before I even got that far
Guess my main issue is being on my own introducing them as a solo walker does anyone have any advice as to how best approach this?

Thats fab they let you, I helped out at a rescue before I got Moo for a short period, but they wouldn't let me walk the dogs with Moo and as I only have 2 days off she is my priority, great thing to do Xx

Re: Took a walk to the rescue today
Ahh! So are you hoping to adopt this little lady? As to handling two on a walk, I've always struggled on my own with Biscuit and another dog because she is so reactive, so depends on each dogs training level and personality/behavioural traits really! I can walk Biscuit with my friend's Yorkie no problem, but Max would kick off when Biscuit did, or try to run off when I was trying to keep her calm so it was impossible to walk them together.
A calm intro is a great sign, just be vigilant for signs within the house, one of my early foster's was so cool and calm with every dog he met I thought he'd slot into the house no problem. Had no issues with people and just seemed like a great little dog. Turned out he was extremely possessive with food/toys and would literally fly at Biscuit if she as much as looked at him when he was eating, and would show aggression towards her over affection from me too. Biscuit is like a totally different dog in to the house compared to out and just completed backed down to him and lay on her tummy just terrified bless her! Although she will bully my friend's lab for his tennis balls and generally torments him in the house, they'd be horrendous living together!! Have either of them lived with another dog before?

Re: Took a walk to the rescue today
This is Daisy
Not sure on adoption yet it would have to be right for Ledger so quite glad they do trial week and they are really open to getting lots of pre meet time and the walker said you can take them for a few hours and go to neutral fields for a good run off etc. Didn't get much chance to talk to the staff as there was a particularly awkward couple there at the same time, hence wanting to meet her on my own.
Ledger stays at my parents when I'm at work so lives with their dog with no issues but on the flip that is Luckys house and he goes to say, I've never had another dog in Ledgers domain. I think Daisy will get snapped up before I have the time to put the ground work and controlled meetings that I think we would need

Trial week is such a good idea! Don't know why more rescues don't do this id try and find out as much info as you can, and just keep meeting her! Least it's good socialisation for them both even if it doesn't end up in a home she looks very sweet though! Dinky!!

Jules she is so pretty! Yes the trial will have to be the telling week if you're able to take her on and see how Ledger reacts at home. Lots of luck, she sounds divine.

Aww she is a gorgeous little girl, take your time and get to know her well, go for as many meetings with her as you can to see how they would both get on together.

Re: Took a walk to the rescue today
She looks lovely Jules.
Surprised they not managed to dog test her in a week though. They have to exercise the dogs anyway so thought they could have fitted in walking with another known friendly dog, then progressed from there. After all the more info you can tell people the more they can tell if its the dog for them.
Great they do a weeks trial though.

Re: Took a walk to the rescue today
Popped back today to donate Ledgers kibble that he won't eat now we've gone raw. This Daisy is now Bianca and now has the probably no dogs tag on the rehome info board as she turned on one of the other rescue collies on a walk on Sunday tho they haven't fully tested her with males seems the bad manners she showed to Ledger might be a bit more than they originally thought.
They also showed me new Daisy a poor small Staffy cross very similar to the above but got returned on Saturday aft being homes a year ago apparently the owners have a family member with a kid that is allergic she was just shaking in her cage doesn't understand where her family have gone. Again they are more than happy for me to take her out for the day and even overnight with Ledger so I may try and walk her soon. Issue is my parents who look after Ledger while I'm a work as they have to have a say
There are also two gorgeous Staffy boys Dave the red and a beautiful black brindle who they have called Diesel but I know him as Mr Pig as sadly his owner is quite ill and in and out of hospital with an elderly aunt who is allergic to dogs (but allowed him to stay) being the only family member to help out being in her 90s she couldn't walk him. He is the softest dog you will ever meet and adored his owner is was heart wrenching to see im in a cage but happily he is off to a new home next week.
Well it's one crazy place I had considered their kennel facilities but it would be too much atmosphere for Ledger, there are the boarders, I think 12-15 strays/rescues and the owners have 16 dogs of their own!
