Re: Beware Wilko dog treats......
These are the source stories, it appears to be the Wilkinson's Ham Bones that are causing the problem:-
"I bought my dogs a ham bone from wilkos last July and the following day ellie and abby were both sick, ellie seemed to be sick then was ok but abby was very ill, it was a Sunday so I phoned the vets they said it sounded like a gastrol infection she is a staff and are hardy dogs she should be fine, was up all might with her so took her to the vets as soon as they opened, abby died 15 minutes after I got het to the vets she was only just 3 years old, we were all devestated my dogs are my babies, so I believe it was the ham bone that klled her, will never give my dogs them again. We had abby cremated she is here with us, took us along time to get over losing such a fantastic good natured dog"
"hello i hope u dont mind me posting my story on here but i need to warn people of what can happen, 3 days ago a `tasty ham bone` was bought out of the pet section in wilkos for my dog, this bone splintered and he had to have an operation to remove all the splinters, because it had compacted in his intestine his body had become very weak so they had to build him up before they operated, the op luckily went well but he had a cardiac arrest 24 hrs later, before this he was a lovable healthy 8 year old dog, we lost him for no reason, wilkos have been informed, there answer to this is there is a small print note saying to supervise your dog when he eats it cos it may fragment, they still continue to sell it, not all of there bones carry warnings and having spoke to other people i have since found there are problems with a few of there bones and treats, i gave my dog his bone in good faith it was safe as bought as a proper dog treat"
"It would seem another dog nearly died through Wilkos dog bones, Having been contacted by the owner head office said they wasn't aware of my case, They paid my vet fees and cremation fees so they are very aware. Please add people to this page so as many dog owners are aware how dangerous the tasty ham bones are from Wilkos. How many dogs need to die and owners lose their family pet before Wilkos remove these bones!!!"

Re: Beware Wilko dog treats......
Happened to a friend in Spain too a few weeks ago someone else thought they were nice and gave my friends dog the chicken carcass after a roast queue splintered bones compacted in the stomach. Luckily they got him to the vet in time

Re: Beware Wilko dog treats......
My parents Staff had a problem with a cooked ham bone a couple of times. Not sure if they were Wilkos, but one day he just suddenly went all whiny and foamy at the mouth and then collapsed and couldn't move. My parents took him to the vets, they kept him in over night and done a load of tests but couldn't find what had caused it.
A few weeks later, he was given another ham bone treat and the same thing happened a few hours after he had eaten it.
Can't believe they can still sell these.

Spot on. Much as dogs love bones, raw ones are the only ones you should give.

Re: Beware Wilko dog treats......
I am so sad to read this - bloody corporations more interested in money than the health of their patrols (4 legged or not!). I have private messaged everyone I know with dogs on facebook. Knowing these big corporations no-one can be safe from liable by posting publically (unless they are the ones that Wilko's have paid off!).
Thank you so much for sharing.
Maybe we should all just pop to the butcher! I have had quite a few freebies from butchers - it's amazing what they give away if you spend a few quid with them.
