playing ball???? Empty playing ball????

Post by thecrustycob Wed Feb 26 2014, 19:22

hi i have a rescue staffie called jack, he is the most lovable loyal dog, we also have another dog whom jack loves too pieces.we have had him for 18 months now. when we first got him we used to be abe to play ball with him, hed drop the ball we'de throw it and so on. Then he stopped giving it back, we had a few training classes, then we compromised and gave him the ball as his toy. he seemed really happy with that, and it kept him out of mischief with other dogs ect. this lasted about two months......now he has a habit of having his own ball in his mouth, and then pinchng other dogs balls as well, running around with two balls, but also not coming back. neadless to say, when he does come back i cant get it out of his mouth, even with treats, and he does love his food. He also goes hell for leather running upto other dogs and he is not the gentlest of dogs when running at 100 miles an hour, and he rams into other dogs.
ive gone back to the drawing board on a long line, and starting his recall. but i dont know weather it s a staffie thing or not, he runs hell for leather like a mad dog. help!!!!!! Crying or Very sad

I would also recommend using the long training lead, as for the ball do you take another toy as a distraction for him ?

aaahhh, so staffies are like that are they, did wonder about him runnig running runnning. Have tried a long lie, but he runs that fast he gets tangled up in it, very frustrating. He actually has a ball tied to his collar which is permanantly in his mouth, and he doesnt like to share, can NEVER get the balls out of his mouth.
