my 1 year old staff will not walk on her lead!

Hi, I have a 1 year old Staffordshire bull terrier
(female)
we got her when she was 6 months old from a big farm in Yorkshire. Theres was loads of other dogs there at the time so she was allowed to roam around the acres of the land and never ever got trained to walk on the lead.
Some say this is an advantage. I don't mind letting them of the leads when there trained, but we have to walk them down to the big field and I would not under any circumstance have her walking alongside me walking down a busy road.
I have tried everything. As soon as the collar and lead are out it is a constant struggle to even get them on her, when they are on she bites the lead and refuses to move. There is no hope of moving her she is so strong and very stubborn bless her.
Its such a shame, Eva should of been trained to walk on the lead as a pup. I have this constant struggle now.
Does anyone have any tips or advice, Even if she would just let me walk her a few steps so she gets used to it. Then we can do a little more each day so she isn't scared of it and becomes comfortable with it.
Any tips gratefully received.
Kind regards
Megan

Re: my 1 year old staff will not walk on her lead!
A friend of mine took on a little terrier from a similar background, she went completely back to basics and trained her as she would a pup. You could show her the collar/lead and feed her lots of small, high value treats, and then progress to placing the collar on her very loosely, feeding more treats, tightening it, more treats, lead on, more treats, lead trailing behind around the house, more treats, walking around the house on a loose lead, more treats, walking around to heel, more treats and then progressing to short walks in quiet areas and go from there. This should be done over a few weeks though.
In the mean time do you have a car? So that you could take her to a safe off lead area to still get her exercise without having to walk along the road?

Thanks for all your help
Well that's what we have been doing with her driving her to a field and let her get her exercise.
I have been putting her collar on her for a couple of hours a day to get her used to that.
kind regards
