bad leg staffy
I bought a staffy 2 years back but the people I bought from didn't say he had a bad kneecap on his leg. I don't know if he had it when i bought him or he developed it after I bought him. Ive had numerous trips to the vets and 1 operation which has made it slightly better. Hes a great dog and still runs about mad and can do most things a staffy can do apart from jump really high. Other people don't notice it or say hes fine but i know he hops very slightly sometimes and i think other dogs kinda notice it too and try and dominate him. vets says his kneecap isn't sticking in and the operation did not help keep it firmly in. I didn't want to put him through another operation as he was in so much pain constantly crying after it the first. The vet says his condition is a Patellar knee cap problem and I read that arthritus can develope.
Should i get him pet insurance in case it gets worse ? I'm against a second operation but would try it, maybe if anyone on the forum has had success with it and suggest another operation.

Re: bad leg staffy
He's a very handsome chap, unfortunately I don't think a new insurance policy will cover pre existing health problems

Re: bad leg staffy
This sounds like a luxating patella, which is quite a comman problem in Staffies, sadly. As Hayley says above the new insurance most probably wouldn't cover any pre existing conditions.

I think insurance is always good to have in case they have an accident or anything like that!

Re: bad leg staffy
Hi, my Caley has just had that operation only 5 days ago and it was pretty expensive, I luckily had insurance, however, I doubt very much they would pay for existing injury. The recovery process is extremely slow, but since hse go the anthestic out of her system she is coping as best a dog can whilst being crated and wearing that cone.
Caley's knee kept slipping out of place which is why she needed the surgery, she never seemed that bothered by it until a few days before they decided to operate as it kept slipping and locking.
Hope you work it all out.

Re: bad leg staffy
Thats a similar situation to me,I didn't know Suzy had a lactating patella untill I took her for a walk and she started limping. I wasn't told by the previous owners as they didn't walk her so either didn't know about it or knew and didn't care. Anyway she has been fixed up she still has her scar. It was horrible at the time I thought I had broken her or something
