Dogmatic
So after having my arms and back wrenched daily, I have got a dogmatic headcollar. Tried it on him at home a few times today and he didn't seem to mind it on. Doggy treats may have helped So Im going to try it out in the morning. I will still put his harness on so if he hates walking in it and needs more time practising at home, I can just use that. I got a double ended lead. Any advice?

Re: Dogmatic
I have one for Oz,nuts not a cure for pulling but I can honestly say that Oz us a different dog when I walk him on it, I only use it when we do street walks though and a short lead, if we go in the park then it's harness and flexi lead. I have so much more control with the dogmatic, it's brill

Re: Dogmatic
It's ^^^ not my cup of tea! I don't like Caesar Milan or his methods. I've got a halti but tbf I think training, patience and persistence are all that work

Re: Dogmatic
We have tried the Halti head collar on Rocky with some success, I think this is similar to your Dogmatic, sorry but as soon as see his name CM I switch off.

Re: Dogmatic
CM not mentioned by me
Well tried it today and although he still pulled he was easier to control and it was at half the strength. I still had arms and a working back when we returned! However, I think its slightly too big and that's on the tightest setting so returning it for the next size down. Got to wait again now
I had a recommended dog trainer out for his pulling. We went out and she saw how he rarely sniffs just wants to march, no weeing etc. She said, this dog has never been out much, which is what we thought. She also said he is really anxious being out that's why he wont wee or sniff or take treats. As soon as she said it I could see she was right. That's why he is always on alert at everything and of course he is not at ease enough to do any of the above. So she recommended the dogmatic and also some balancing/calming herbal drops. So its been hard to train him to walk nicely when he cannot focus on you, too anxious to eat a treat (that he would wolf down indoors). So anything that helps

Re: Dogmatic
Thanks Hayley
I must say while he didn't love it, he was quite good with it, but then maybe he was more worried about everything else

Re: Dogmatic
Oo I never thought of using a harness and double ended lead also? What benefits does that have and Sue, what sort of calming drops as ?Oz is always in a mission when we are out and gies nuts if he sees another dog x

Re: Dogmatic
because a head collar can be easy to back out of and slip even if properly fitted, so I cannot take the chance of Chance slipping his dogmatic if he shows off, so use the double ended lead

Re: Dogmatic
I have the double ended lead for extra security Sara, in case he got out of the head collar, (as Ella said) but also was told to do it so you can almost use it as a horse rein. So you are not constantly pulling on the head collar.
This is where I got his drops from http://www.creaturecomforters.co.uk/blends-for-animals.htm
He is on the this Balance one

Re: Dogmatic
Well sadly when the next size down Dogmatic came it was too small! He couldn't open his mouth to pant, so will be not be safe for him. So I'm sending it back for refund, he must be between sizes.
Just been to Pets at Home and got him fitted with a Halti as recommended by Hayley and Kathy. I like the fact it has a padded nose bit and a safety line to connect to the collar.
Word of warning. He tried on their own make I think it was and as I checked the fit on him, I noticed the inside stitching was brittle/sharp and would have really rubbed and irritated his face! I don't know if they used that clear almost plastic thread stuff or what but it was horrible, so glad I noticed it as I would have it for the good fit! So be careful.

Re: Dogmatic
ive got a leather dogmatic that as it's worn in has got looser so made another hole so fits well if chester is not wearing his dogmatic i really notice the difference esp if hes see's a cat before i do! i started off with a halti which had an attachment that clipped onto his collar i now use this to attach to his dogmatic as they do seem to spring free if they get worked up enough so even if he pulls his dogmatic off ive still got hold of him by his collar! i keep it soft with saddle soap and its made my life alot easier on walks (not perfect but what is!!) not that cheap though mine was about £30 but has lasted well i think well worth the money!
