Re: my hedgiepig
Awww thats so cute!!!!!!!
Ive tried to help 2 now and both times they have died.
They have been wild ones and have found them each time roaming about around the stables so Ive put them into the feed room with staw and they have hybernated but havent woke up just died.
My hubby says they must have been sick thats why ive seen them in the daytime and at least they have gone peacefully in there sleep, dont know what ive done wrong its so upsetting just want them to sleep wake and be free again in spring.
Are you going to keep it as a pet in the home?

yer he's going to be a pet at home, as he is a african pygmy hedgie and they can't survive outside in this country, and plus they can't hibernate as it is fatal to them

Wow.....that is just the sweetest little thing
Sorry....I live under a rock
How big will it grow? What do they eat? Do they "DO" anything? ( it's not like a cat that you can cuddle or a dog you can take for walks and play with )
Very Cute

haha, well they eat cat biscuits mainly with insects and other bits as treats, they love to have a cuddle and are a bit like a small cat they love to be stroked and generally fall asleep on you they grow to about 4 times the size ish he is now oh and they love to play little games like tug of war and that, as you have to give them plenty of toys!

Re: my hedgiepig
you do worm and flea them more if they need it rather then regularly like you would a cat.
no they are the same as any other colour, but they are his baby spines so they are a bit less 'spiky' then the adults

Re: my hedgiepig
sorry i know it is each to there own but its a wild animal and should be in the wild roaming and foreging. i dont use slug pellets or anything in my garden because there are wild hedgies come to feed on the slugs and snails which is fine it stops the dog eating them and getting poisoned.

Sorry but NO these are not wild animals, you will never find these in the wild, they are a hybrid hedgehog basically created for living indoors as they would not survive in the wild, especially not an albino.

I totally agree but albino hedghog will not stand a chance in the wild and they are bred for captive purposes only,
Just like white lions/tigers they wouldn't survive in the wild and many other albino animals wouldn't either, one of natures cruel intentions of creating albino animals unfortunatly they simple do not survive in the wild, just like pure white dogs have a hard time and so do pure white wolves.

Re: my hedgiepig
See the thing is these are african pygmy hedgehogs not native wild ones in england, so like i said wouldn't survive in the wild as they can't tolerate much fluctuation in temperatures etc
Guest- Guest
Re: my hedgiepig
With African Pygmy hedgehogs they cannot survive in colder temperatures as they are not designed to hibernate as this could kill them whereas with our native hedgies as soon as the temperature drops they go off to hibernate so that they can survive the cold.APH's have to live in a moderated 70* or above to ensure they do not hibernate. My little Harry has tried to hibernate once and its not a nice thing to see, they get very disorientated and slow and they just want to hide away. When these hedgies were first publicised as being the newest pet craze a few years ago there was a huge demand for them so the prices shot up considerably meaning that a lot of people could not afford them so this led to a rise in people going out and taking native hedgies from the wild but they soon realised that they are totally different animals in every way.
