toilet in the house again!!!!
Hi am new to the forum and am hoping someone can help our mad staff Izzy went into a kennels that my parents use as we couldnt get her into the usual one she was only in there for 1day and night but since coming back she will toilet in the garden in her designated spot as she did before she went in but every morning i wake to a poo and wee on the kitchen floor we have tried restricting her access but this results in her doing it right by the door,we tried putting her and her bed in the kitchen thinking she wont go where she sleeps but still the same result, started to feed her earlier in the day,we dont go to bed till midnight and she will wee whilst out but it is like she is waiting to poo, this is very strange as she was completly house trained before she went into the kennels, really need to get this sorted somehow so will try any ideas oh she is 17mths old.

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
She goes out for a 30min walk twice a day as she always has but she has unlimited access to the garden i tend to take her out early and late as she gets real excited when meeting other dogs/owners another issue that we need to sort but the toileting is the main issue at the mo,we have not changed her walking times etc the only change was the kennels as she was fine beforehand

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
30 mins twice a day is not bad now she getting abit older maybe take her out abit long like 45 mins twice a day.
put her out in the garden for 15 mins even if she does want to go before you go to bed.

The easiest thing to do is just to go back to bascis with her, ive just had to do this with my Ty who's 12 months. Just start taking her out every 30 mins, lots of praise and a treat when she goes....just like when she was a pup! It will be sorted in no time!

Absolutely! The stay in kennels has disorientated her & she's regressed a little. Go right back to when you first started house training - pretend she's a pup again. If she goes indoors, ignore it & take her into the garden. Leave her there while you clear up (don't let her see you do it or she might start to look on it as a game) & make sure you use a doggy deodoriser spray so she can't smell it in the house. Whenever she wees & poos outside give her plenty of fuss, but ignore her when she has 'accidents' indoors. She'll be back to normal real soon!

I don't know what the previous owners did to Blue but he has a fear of bags. Oh and road cones.

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
Ok an update on the toileting in the kitchen not going too well she is 17mths old, she will poo in the garden in her designated spot all day she is ok if left for any length of time during the day but when night comes its like to punish us for leaving her alone she will poo and wee in the kitchen,we have just come back from a long walk where she did a few wees it wasnt a great walk as am trying to get her to walk better on the lead and ignore other dogs/people we had been in for 10mins and there is a nice walnut whip on the kitchen floor it is just like she is doing it as a protest about something we are running out of ideas rapidly to turn this around again

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
You could try introducing her to a crate at night/when you go out. Very few staffords like to foul their beds (they're known as very clean dogs) and once she's used to it, it'll become her 'den' and she'll probably love it!

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
The only thing I worry about is she is 17 months old, I have no idea about crate training but think she may be too old. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I had a prolem with mine, I take her out at 7 in the morning and midnight (inbetween her walks!) which I do not offer as a sugggestion but I got so so anoyed at cleaning up messes it's the only thing that works!
Very frustrating.
I ended up changing her feeding times and that has worked (touch wood) just have patience she will learn, if not have a look at her diet

Re: toilet in the house again!!!!
Not too old for crate training, but it would have to be a gradual thing. Start by leaving her bed near the crate & put a blanket in it with some toys/treats. After a while try putting her bed inside the crate (if you can - otherwise put a foam dog mattress in it) after her walk so she's nice & tired. Put a couple of treats & a favourite toy inside as well & just leave her to get used to it. After a while she'll begin to like it because it'll feel familiar & 'safe'. Once she's going inside on her own, close the door but don't lock it. That way if she wants to get out she can & she won't feel trapped. After a while you should be able to lock the crate door for a few minutes at a time & you can build it from there.
