my 4yr old bitch staffy
Hi im new and just really need to speak with anyone with experience I paralysis in dogs espesh staffys. I came in from work late one night and everything was normal with.my dogs had a shower ect.. went to let.my dogs out and one of them jumped off sofa and fell on her side. I strait away noticed her left rear leg was totally limp no movement at all coulsnt feel a thing.i took her to the vets asap the next day and they gave her steroid tablets and a steriod shot. Its been about 4days now since it hapend ive been back to the vets yesterday and they gave her menoxydl and anti biotic tablets. Ive noticed she can feel really hard pinchs at her paw areaa and when she asleep dreaming im pretty sure her left rear leg twitch ive also tried stealthy touhing wivout her ware of me approaching her and she responded asif she felt.me touch her leg. She also lifts her head up n holds it in mid to high and repeats for hours even wen shes asleep which prompts me to think about her apinal the vet has checked her up.and down and thinks its nuroligical and obcourse needs x rays and possibly mri if no results o both well its alot of muney spent I dont got. Im willing to go the lengths for.my dog muney comes and goes and im happy to takw out a credit card to pay. I just cant find anything on the internet that is like mysituation. She has lost all function of left rear leg. She can eat and drink wee and poo. She can contol that. Its jus the leg. I feel so bad for her she doesnt deserve this anand.my.otger dogs know somethings wrong. If anyon van give any advice or know of similet storys and can tell me outcomes of what I coyld possibly be facing.. all I know is I have to get the scans know for sure and b able to rule things out. But for x ray is 500poundand mri talking like 3grand I think. Im going to do it regardless becauae I canoy live wiv.my self if I didnt try everything but if I can get a heads up or anu advice to help me.make a dwcision woulf apriciate so much. I have 3 staffy love them to the end and after. And pride.my self.on changing peoples opinions on the breed. Please if.anyone can help in anyway will.be greatful. Thanks.. imnew so sorry if ive done this in wrong manner.

Hi and welcome from darcy and me, I agree it sounds like a neurological disorder, has your vet mentioned L2-HGA. It may not be this.

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
Yeah whats hydrotheraphy? I am doing a little bit of physio anyway. Just common sense stuff like using a belt to support under her belly while walking around going to a from the garden. Also have a pull a move her limps but am.no pro im jus trynado my bit. Like I said most stuff I read about Iis both legs conplety paralized and or being weak and eventually turning Iinto full paralysis. This is jus one leg. And hard to know where shes in pain because she doesnt yelp or indicate as obviously as opose tp.another breed type. So I was hoping slip disc thats touching the spine thats trapped a nerve maybe or something but without xray wont know for sure and surely she would indicate some pain all I get frm her is disconfort. If I touch hind and legs her head slowly lifts up but thats it so I can only say shes either bein brave or its not.imense pain but there is discomfort. I apriciate evetything anyone has to offer. Any info or insight would be great.

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
Hello from me and Pixee. Sorry I cant help with this one. However since you have 3 dogs, shouldnt you at least take out some Insurance for the future. It costs next to nothing monthly, and peace of mind for you rather than having to face those big bills now. I know you say you will do anything for your dogs.

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
Hydortherapy :
"Hydrotherapy is a form of exercise carried out in warm water, giving increased circulation to muscles, increased joint flexibility and reduced joint pain.
Hydrotherapy in conjunction with Veterinary treatment can significantly improve the quality and rate of healing following surgery or traumatic injury. After surgery careful use of hydrotherapy can help with rehabilitation and increase the chance of a successful return to full fitness. Hydrotherapy can also significantly improve mobility for arthritic patients".
Please ask your vet if this is something they could provide, would your insurance cover it ?

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
That sounds good shes starting to move it while she walking but her poor is a limp still but shes showin a few signs. Ill ask my vet. As for insurence I did it the day I found her like this lol. Dont cover for first 2weeks. As my other dog bam is her son im insuring the whole pack its something that I intended to do a good while back when I had her litter ( she only had 3 and all stayed in family) I had her spaid strait after and should of insured her but never got round to it. the hydrotherapy sounds good ill mentiin this if its worth the while. Cheers everyone

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
How old is she? The test for L2 HGA is a cheek swab from the animal health centre in Newmarket. I'm on my phone so can't see what country you're in. An MRI or bloods won't pick up on this so speak to your vet ASAP. Let us know how you get on

Re: my 4yr old bitch staffy
Hi everyone. Shes able to walk now still wobbly and not to full strength but she can manage to flip the paw upright position instead of standing on her knucklys shes still not fully got it feeling back she struggles when she sits... could this of been a stroke? My vet didnt mention this.. as of now all my dogs are insured its a shame I left it until this. Insurence should be compulsory. Ill keep posted.. im from the uk ( england ) and roxy is 4 and a half years old.
