Chloe's foot bleeding AGAIN!
She runs for a ball and then skids the last few feet with her front legs straight out so sort of scrapes along the grass. She's torn her dew claw a few times but it's always healed in a couple of days (she spends ages licking it). Today, she's ripped one of her pads. Little paw prints in blood everywhere. A sedate walk tomorrow is in order I think (she won't like it!!!!!!!!!!)

Did you ever consider having Daisy's dew claws removed Sazzle? It's something we're considering talking to the vet about - Chloe's ball-chasing technique isn't going to change so she's always going to hurt her paws I think!

Re: Chloe's foot bleeding AGAIN!
Thanks Hayley! She's been out into the garden a few times this evening, with a bit of a limp, and keeps looking up at me as if to say 'it hurts a bit mum!!' She's wrapped up in bed now_Hayley_ wrote:Aww poor girlie, Darcy has done this they walk so gingerly downt they xx hope she heals quickly.

Re: Chloe's foot bleeding AGAIN!
Rocky cut his pad open last year on some glass which took a couple of weeks and no walks to heal. Are you able to cover it with some VetWrap to stop her licking it ?
You can get little boots from Pets At Home which may help

Hope it heals soon. Sounds a good idea to get those little boots from pets at home as kathy has suggested.

Re: Chloe's foot bleeding AGAIN!
Ozzie has the same over enthusiastic braking method too. He has twice ripped off claws when chasing his ball. As others have said, keep her poorly feet dressed when outside and walk her on the lead.
We have tried many thing to curb the braking and have come up with a couple of things that work for us. The first thing I tried was throwing his ball higher in the air rather than further away so he has to keep an eye on it and he doesn't build up so much speed. This has limited success because if he loses sight of the ball completely and runs the wrong way altogether, he sprints over to where the ball lands and does his sliding tackle anyway.
The second is to throw the ball so that it lands close something such as a wall (I use the local tennis court netting). This make him slow down more steadily for the fear of crashing into the net.
The second method works much better for us, but limits the places we can play ball.
