Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
Gave Koda (13 wks) his 1st chicken neck today, two small bites then he swallowed it whole, we didn't expect that !!! Do NOT ever Google if something like this happens to you, I have been beside myself from what I've read !!! He hasn't thrown it up or passed it as yet & seems fine, so hopefully it will digest & break down. Silly boy.

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
Hope he is ok.....Just keep an eye on his breathing and if any swelling of his tummy, make him drink plenty though he should be fine....
We have a small shitzuXmaltese (Bandit) that swallows them whole all the time the little bugger since he was a pup, unless we hold them one end and make him chew....Molly did the same the first time as well but after a couple times hold on them she got the idea that she had to chew, havnt had a problem since.....silly Bandit is 4 and a half now and still hasn't worked it out....so now we only give fresh rabbit pieces which are too big to swallow whole and forces him to chew lol

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
Oh isnt it the scariest thing, i have been feeding Jed chicken necks for lunch since i got him, sometimes he will chew 2/3 times but mostly he swallows it whole. Koda should be ok, going to start doing what Jase said and hold them so he chews them

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
My little girl scared the hell out of me when she was about 3 months with a hide chews, the last bit she decided to swallow whole and it was all soft except one end which got caught in the back of throat with 2 inches or more down her throat....still enough passage to breath but a little laboured, I didn't notice her breathing until she jumped up to me, once I noticed I stuck my fingers down her throat to pull it out but was slimy as, and couldn't get a good hold on it and it started to go further down! I managed to grab it and pull it out with no ill effect, but geez it scared the hell out of me!

He'll be fine Hun, so long as they can swallow it which he did they only need to chew so the pieces are small enough xx

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
chicken necks are small so dont worry
My boys swallow alsorts whole, wings are one crunch and down it goes.
DON'T forget dogs do not chew their food, all the do is crunch it enough to be swallowed whole

Sara ! Koda has been perfectly fine since he did it, normal toilet, appetite, energy etc., so really it was just us who had a problem with it it seems

Hahahaha Lola eats chicken wings like that too! Her belly looks rather full afterwards, but she lies in front of the fire for a couple of hours and then is back wanting more...........

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
Haha oh dear they do like to worry us! This topic makes me a feel a bit better about Bane!
We had a scare with him and a nylabone once! Got a pack of 3: 2 edible and one not. The first edible took him days to finish, but when it came to giving him the second, I left the room and seconds later he came trotting through with no nylabone in site! It was like a magic trick!
We also have a stupid weird old man on the street that chucks his scrap food into the road! We try to keep away but Bane managed to pick up a bone of some sorts once...I wrestled with him to try and get it out, as soon as I got his mouth opened he swallowed it...whole

Re: Puppy swallowed a whole chicken neck
Alfie has just swallowed his last bit of raw hide chew whole and scared the absolute life out of me! He seems fine though, he didn't choke or anything just one minute it was there the next it was gone!! I'm encouraging him to drink lots so hopefully he'll be fine! As soon as he did it I knew exactly which post on here I needed to re-read! Why do they do it to us?! Xx

He"ll probably be fine Hun but Beware of raw hide, it can swell in the stomach, even small bits, I won't give Darcy it.
