taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
That's it I'm sick of umming and arrrrrring whether to change or not as I still haven't got my head around it all but I'm just going to do it!!! Raw it is Belle loves chicken wings anyway so I'm sure she'll be fine its just me who can't cope ha!! I'm shocking at maths so could someone please help with the % and grams side, ive just weighed Belle and she's 12.8kg she'll be 6months next week. Should I give her minced chicken for breakfast as its softer or would a boney meal for breakfast be ok?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
I started Bacchus on raw in November and am amazed at the condition he is in already. No excess fat, firm samaller poos, no smelly bum burps. As I'm a newbie to raw I am using Natural Instinct which is a complete food and was recommended to me by staffie friends. There is a feeding guide on their website. They do a puppy version also. Worth a look. Bacchus is 20 kilos and a 1kg tub does him 2 days, so about £1.60 a day to feed him.

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
3 keys things before anything would be
1) have you got space to store the food
2) At least learn the basics - the good thing about raw diet is you dont need to know everything in one day, knowing the basics first like what to feed him for the first few weeks, that gives you time in those weeks to learn more about raw, simply because you dont need to give your dog everything from the start as yet, and even then you can always learn new things threw your whole experiance
3) Find a supplier
Chicken mince will be good to start you off for the first week and some say even 2 weeks but at least a week, chicken mince will have some bone in it anyway but giving your dog the odd bone wont do him any harm, mainly focus on the main meal which is chicken to start off with, then you can introduce new meats.
Dont try and over complicate things, when you learn alittle you will find theres nothing to panic about
Im new to all this aswell, theres more experianced raw feeders here who will be along shortly to help

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
thanks Jason & Hayley
well its been 4 days now and its going okish, Belle has slightly gone off eating chicken with bones in since she tried minced chicken, her poops were great until today when they were green and sloppy and she's not keen on chicken meat like breast or thigh? any suggestions on what I should do? thanks

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
Sometimes that can be normal for the first week,my pup only had 1 bad poo quite messy looking and one or two inbetweenish.
Where did you buy the mince chicken from? Supermarket or chicken minced for pets?

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
yeah Hayley Ive found a place that does pretty much everything near me but I went today and I have to admit I wasn't keen on the place, I don't know what they are supposed to be like but it was filthy!!! seemed very un hygienic, excuse if I seem like a right snob lol but Belle gets treat just like 1 of the kids do and I don't fancy giving her food from somewhere where I don't feel satisfied with, if you know what I mean.
I live close to Daf aswell but I haven't had a chance to get their yet.
Jason I bought the mince from pah until I went to daf or somewhere closer.

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
I use daf sometimes, there mince is a lil stinky, but darcy loves it, especially the tripe you may get some off poops until she's used to it

If she is still like this in a couple of days I would pop her along to the vet

Re: taking the plunge to RAW!!!!
it's very normal kathy when swapping to raw you need to get the balance between bone and meat to get good consistent poos
