Re: splaying
Hi I asked the same question as I was gonna get Sasha spayed. I was advised to wait until she is 18-24 months before getting it done, so that she has a chance to mature properly. Also, I think that early spaying can lead to health problems later in life

Have a read through the link, lots of info there. But definitely wait one season, preferably two. As Jan stated, preferably around 18-24 months!

Re: splaying
If your gettin her done it's beat to wait like mention above until about 2 it's all down to personal choice if you have her spayed or not, just do your research

Re: splaying
I know seasons are a pain, but at least you can get "hygiene pants" these days, which weren't available when I had bitches. They must help A LOT.
Exercising a bitch on heat is also a problem - DON'T let her off the lead! She'll be looking for husbands, and be sure that hopeful husbands will find her! So try to pick quiet times when most dog walkers are not around for your walks; keep her on a lead and your eyes on stalks!
Other bitches can also be jealous of your bitch on heat.
My bitches (they were Dobermanns) were spayed between 2 and 3 years of age. The first bitch became incontinent regarding wee after spaying, the second was thankfully OK. Guess it's the luck of the draw but it's as well to be aware.
On the plus side, there were no more season problems (obviously) and no risk of pyo in older age (equally obviously).
We all have to take our own informed decisions and decide accordingly.
