raw diet help again please lol!
We seem to be getting through the never ending sack of Burns nicely now lol!
Milo is about 5 months old now and since we've had the green light to go out since jabs is gaining muscle and tone nicely and it's only been 4 days....maybe it's him just growing lol! We are unsure exactly how a 5 month old should look but that said he looks good to us, he still has some puppy fat to him but is lean in shape iykwim?
We will feed according to how he looks but I really need some idea as to portions to start us off please. We're keen to give him a varied diet of raw but we really need some suggestions on amounts and varied food types to kick us off. As some of you will knwo we're planning on going raw for the am and midday feed and then use the Burns puppy for the pm until it's gone and plan to go raw completely. He's loving the ham bones with meat on, they keep him amused for hours but not tried anything else yet...don't know where to start....or rather in what amounts! Especially things like mince!
Sorry to be a pain and asking again but we just need to be led the way a little as we're keen it's the way to go, thanks

Re: raw diet help again please lol!
lol forgot about this!
'An approximate food consumption guide, based on raw meaty bones, for the average pet cat or dog is 15 to 20 percent of body weight in one week or 2 to 3 percent per day. On that basis a 25 kilo dog requires up to five kilos of carcasses or raw meaty bones weekly. Cats weighing five kilos require about one kilo of chicken necks, fish, rabbit or similar each week. Table scraps should be fed as an extra component of the diet. Please note that these figures are only a guide and relate to adult pets in a domestic environment.'

What do you mean by 'tailor it'?
Do you mean amounts or frequency?

Re: raw diet help again please lol!
you still give the puppy the same amount as you would an adult dog, as the puppy is growing.
see this thread - should help, did for me

As hes a puppy I wouldnt go exactly by the guidlines and they are probably tailored for an adult dog and he is doing a lot of growing. To start with its trial and error to find out how much your dog needs to maintain it's weight. If I notice my girl's waists slim down I up their food a bit, if they get wider then I cut it down!
I also go by how hungry they seem (though tali is always hungry so its not that clear of an indicator)!

Re: raw diet help again please lol!
thanks Tracie
thanks Lynn, yes seen it before but still need some guidance lol!
caryll, yes what amounts and what frequency? Milo was 10 something kg at 4 months and can't remember what he was at 5 months, hubby picked him up on the home scales and said he was 15kg, but I know this isn't accurate so would think about 12.5 kg....so that's approx 360 grams a day. He should be on 3 meals a day right until 8 months? So 120 grams a day. I know I'm being really a.nal about it but I want to get things right, I'm sure once we get used to feeding the barf diet we won't weigh out anything lol!
Thanks Nosipho, it's because he's growing and it's such an important time that I think I'm so worried about doing things wrong! What would a balanced varied diet consist of for a 5 month old active staff on the barf diet?
Do any of you buy from the barf site at all? It's fairly varied and well priced I think or is it cheaper to go butcher for actual meaty bones? Sorry for the question after question folks!
