Over excited when guests come
Agh ! I wondered if you all had any tips re and over excited 20kg staffy that has started to jump on people's laps and jump up ect . At the old house he used to jump up but then sit next to people on sofa more calmly . Since we have moved he has gotten way more excite ale when people come and it's getting too much , I don't want the pup to do this when she grows up . I have a crate but if I put him in it he cries and howls , same if I put him in the kitchen with the baby gate .
Any tips how I can sort this ?
Thanks

I have exactly same prob with Vin, its the only thing I hate him doing, everything else he is an angel. Now I tend to have gone back to basics and put him an a lead when peeps come until he knows not to jump and settles down. I even say time out and pop him in his crate for ten minutes and he soon calms down

Ledger also started this on Saturday night so it will be back to basics and on the lead in future. He had time out in his crate and when calm had a stuffed kong but still barked and whined for attention when he wasn't the centre of mine
Have got a thunder shirt for the fireworks so hopefully it may also help with his general anxiety

We still have this issue with Rocky even now. As we don't get many visitors he just goes OTT whenever anyone does come round. Great idea to use the collar for when people arrive then see how it goes when you let him off. Maybe a stuffed Kong as a distraction may also work

Back to basics I think ask visitors to ignore him until he calms or pop him on a lea until he's calm

I agree with everyone else... on the lead or back in the crate just till he settles down and ask people to ignore him. They just love people so much it's hard to contain their excitement!!
