10 week puppy
I got my puppy at 5 1/2 weeks, breeder told me to come and collect him as he was ready and didn't feel like he needed to keep him any longer, I obviously took him to vets to get a check up so I've had him for 4 weeks roughly. He getting better at going toilet on his pads but still not 100% but any tips on how I get him to stop going toilet in his cage ? I make sure he goes toilet before I leave the house I won't leave until he has done so and he will run from his pads to his bed to wee on it ? Any tips on how I can stop this ?
Re: 10 week puppy
some pup get it straight away but some take a bit longer, are you taking him out every time he has food or and drink? becasue that when hes likely wanting to go to toilet
Re: 10 week puppy
Yeah I don't go anywhere until he has been toilet and obviously followed by loads of treats and praise when he does go toilet on his pads
Re: 10 week puppy
How big is his crate? I was under the understanding that they will not toilet where they sleep? And have you washed every bit of his bedding and bottom of crate and then made it smell like bed again?
I don't know if it would make a difference or if it was just a coincidence with us, but once when Bane had an accident on purpose in his bed, we washed and dried everything and wiped out the bed base with the odour remover stuff. Put it all back fresh and left him in it and he had another accident, which he doesn't normally do (he had newspaper he always went on)
The next time I washed his bedding, before he went to sleep I brought all his bedding into the living room and snugged it all up with him on the sofa so that he could get his scent and our scent back on it so that it smelt like bed again and not a clean unfamiliar thing...again I don't know if it was just coincidence but could give it a try?

No idea sorry, my pup eats the piddle pads, and is very hit & miss with going to the loo. It will come in time I'm sure, hang in there

Re: 10 week puppy
If you wash all the bedding in biological washing powder this will break down the enzymes that cause the odour which makes them return to the same spot and keep at it, he'll get there

I think you may find things a little more difficult with him leaving his mum so early he won't have been thought bite inhabition or how to behave, but it's done now (I did the same 6&1/2 weeks) before I came here and learnt that they shouldn't leave there more for at least 8 weeks, so don't despair if things get rough we've been through it and we're here for you

at that age he will have little control of his bowls so expect accidents as they cant hold it for very long at all. he may try to give you a warning but if you dont notice and react in minutes he will have no choice but to go wherever he is.
it gets alot better over time as they mature, its all part of the joys of puppy ownership just wait until they do one right next to a door that swings outwards leaving you a nice brown arc when you open it....
