Tired!
As gorgeous as Koda is, we're exhausted !!! Feel bad as we spend most of our time saying 'No!' or growling at him, but he chews EVERYTHING in sight. Toilet training has been a bit hit & miss, he'll go if we put him outside but he's also happy to do a wee inside if he thinks he can get away with it. Sleep has been ok, had a couple of lucky nights where he slept through but for the most part wakes once or twice in the small hours then at 5.30am he's wide awake and howling the house down waiting to be let out. I knew puppies were hard work but I never thought he'd be harder work than having a baby - at least my baby didn't chew anything at 9 weeks and I could put him down and he couldn't move ! We spend plenty of time playing with him, but boy I can't wait til he can go for walks - a few more weeks yet!

Re: Tired!
Very tiring indeed the first few months, stick with it so rewarding in the end xx

Re: Tired!
I remember all to well, at times I regretted getting a dog! I think it seems harder than having a baby because for me anyway I didn't have an overwhelming sense of love for my pup like I did my kids. I loved him over time not instantly. Renny isnt an overly hyper dog and by 4 months most of the unwanted behaviour was pretty much gone, and your right once they can go for walks it is so much easier!

Re: Tired!
Also I was quite strict with Renny more so than my husband was and I was concerned he wouldn't love me because I was the one always telling him no this no that but he does love me so don't feel bad about saying no you have to and they won't hold it against you!

Re: Tired!
Thanks so much everyone. Today is a day I could have a big cry, that's lack of sleep for ya huh. I know we'll get through it, and I know the reward at the other end is SO worthwhile, just need to remind myself of this at times. My OH isn't very patient with him at all, doesn't spend much time playing with him and I think that's just because he shits him to death. My theory is snarl at him for the bad behaviour so he knows it's wrong and in time it will lessen, and then distract him with other games/toys/whatevers then you're not repeating yourself over and over with the no's. Oh god listen to me, I have it all in theory but in practice well ... !!!! lol Sorry for the rant today.

Re: Tired!
The naughty times pass quicker than you think! I remember when we first got Bane and it only seems like yesterday...he has grown up so much already!
Just hang in there! I know how you feel, some days Bane would be so naughty and mischevious I just wished we had never gotten him and I'm sure he would do things to just wind me up! I work from home so I was always there through the good and mainly bad behaviour The OH still thought he was fantastic cos he would come home get some snugs and play then he would go to sleep! If only he knew! haha
But I found from about 11 weeks was his turning point when he started to become toilet trained and actually started to listen more and understand different commands and tricks! Then at 13 you can start walking him! Thats great because you meet so many new people and other dogs and they sleep more from the walking so are a lot calmer!
Does Koda have any play buddies?

Re: Tired!
Obviously they develop at their own rates and I'm sure we have worse to come when Bane hits the "teenager" age! :/
Haha even now after saying how good he has become, he has decided to be an underwear thief, he keeps pinching the socks and stuff off the radiators and running off with them! Cheeky monster!
We found that having other dogs to play with really helped him learn things and helped tire him out when he still couldn't go out for walks. After he had his first injection he was straight round the neighbours to play with their retriever and they are best buds now! We also had a puppy club to take him to...fair enough there is only 1 other puppy that goes but he loves it and it's nice for him to have another pup to play with that is his size
You should see if there are any puppy clubs like that near you? Or if you have any friends that have friendly vaccinated dogs you could arrange some play dates to try and use up all that wonderful energy he has

Re: Tired!
I know 4 months seems a world away from 9 weeks I felt the same way but in a few months you will have a gorgeously well behaved dog. I truly felt in the beginning I wasn't bonding with him and I kept him because my young kids would be sad if I didn't keep him. But now I would be devastated to not have him part of our family. Glad you got out of the heat today! I'm feeling it too!

Re: Tired!
Remember that well . But be assured, it gets easier with each passing week and believe it or not you'll miss the puppy stage so remember to take lots of pics ( and post them here ).
BTW the fact that he is asking out at 5.30 should be seen as a positive. It shows he is catching on to the "going" outside bit.

Awesome, thanks, sometimes I just need a reminder. I love the puppy stage and know he'll soon be out of it which is YAY as well as BOO. Can't he just remain a pup but behave ALL the time ?? He wakes once during the night now and goes outside to the toilet, but I wish he'd stay asleep longer than 5.30am when he's put back in his crate. I need sleep too !! Ha !

I used to take Bacchus out at 11pm. Go to bed and set my alarm for 3am and take him out to the garden for a quick toilet. Then back to bed until 7am. That way I could get two decent sleeps per night and also got him into a routine. My mistake was I carried on with this way too long until it dawned on me that I was having to wake him up to go. But on the plus side, by the time he was 12 weeks we had stopped having " accidents" except the odd time when he had an upset tummy.

Sometimes you would think butter wouldnt melt in their mouths and then bang they dont stop being naughty all of a sudden, i to am sick of saying no but i know i have to or i will have no house or possessions left lol Jed sleeps a whole six hours before he wakes up and needs to be taken outside and if i am lucky he will go back to sleep for another 2 hours. On the days he doesnt go back to sleep i feel exhausted sometimes with him, i am finding myself having a afternoon cat nap with him lol Wouldnt be without him tho, love him to bits

Re: Tired!
I got Ronnie at 10wks and quickly got into a routine at the weekends when he went out for his 5.30am wee he then came onto our bed for another couple of hours so we can get that much needed sleep and he snuggled up and went off no problem.
Now he is 8mth old and still in the same rountine - Mon-Fri he knows its up and work but weekends he goes early wee then up on Mums bed for cuddles but my god does the bed feels so much smaller now he is huge me and daddy on edge of bed and Ronnie spread in the middle but you do anything for an extra hour or two. Its our cuddle train
And that extra bit of sleep makes a better mummy helps me cope just a little bit better.

Re: Tired!
Will give it a go, thanks! He's fine on the lead and happy to wander round so worth a shot. Thing is, he sleeps ok, put him to bed around 10pm and hes fine, toilet any time during the night when he wakes & whines, and back to sleep no prob, but at 5.30am he's wide awake and it's time for us to get up. I'm not a morning person !!!
