waterproof coat
Hi everyone,
Haven't been online in a while been working hard and have been desperately trying to get sasha to behave. She has been a complete nightmare for the last month or so. She seems to have gone deaf overnight and now hates being in her crate when we go out or at night. She even managed to somehow burrow a hole in the living room wall through the bars of the crate she has torn up most of her covers in thecrate too, she seems really destructive so she has been very time consuming. I brought her interactive toys because I thought that she may be becoming bored and from the time it took me to walk to the bathroom and back she has completely destroyed it and it was in 50 pieces on the mat , I have tried stern no's, time out but no joy. Any ideas xx

They have a mind of their own don't they.
Ripping things apart I haven't had to deal with as yet!, but I will be interested what others have to say for the future.

It sounds like you've got yourself a teenager there, be firm and consistent and go back to basics with her, she'll soon understand mummy means business

Re: waterproof coat
Hi we have but sometimes I feel that im being mean to her, we've had to cut down on cuddles and lap time because she's getting so big now. I think she even knows now as soon as she hears eastenders or emerdale shes there waiting lol. At least we've managed to teach her to say please now before she jumps up so that we can at least ready ourselves for the on slaught. I don't know why she doesn't like her crate at the moment she has never been timed out or shut in there as punishment. I can't let hervstay out as the last time I did that she destroyed the carpet upstairs and wee'd on our bed. She's 7 and a half months old now I'm hoping that whatever she is going through pasdes quickly xx

Re: waterproof coat
Lucy has a reflective padded coat , I made a slit where the ring should have come through and then covered the raw edged with duct tape. "very similar to making a button hole"

Re: waterproof coat
Oh Jan I feel your pain at the minute, dont know if you read my post but Ron Dog ate all my vintage vinyl last week left him out of cage for a couple of hours through the day as I feel guilty that he is in overnight and while Im at work so he did well for the first couple of days and I thought great we cracked it... but no. He is so destructive at the minute I just cant turn my back for a second, he has destroyed his bed in his cage and every toy I have given him are gone in seconds.
Ive really felt it the last week with him and started to regret having him, I know its only phase I keep reminding myself it will get better.
Im off school over xmas and dont feel like Im resting Im just shouting NO, Get Off and thats not yours at him all the time. God its less exhausting working with 248 primary kids than 1 staff pup
I did ask Santa for a Dr Who tardis just for dogs so I can fast forward this puppy stage but to no avail......

Re: waterproof coat
Hiya I can really relate to you, Sasha is being so naughty and destructive especially as she gets really jealous of me and my hubby. I also work in a school but in a special educational needs primary school which has its own challenges. I find sasha so challenging lately we seem to go one step forward and five steps back. She has even managed to gnaw a hole in the living room wall, I dont know when or how as she isnt left alone. Everything nice we give her (bed, toys, covers) she just rips to pieces. I give her time out in another room when i went in there she has chewed all the skirting boards, i cant even give her time out in the garden because she just chews my garden furniture and these things are expensive to replace. Sometimes I do think that live was much easier before we got her, Ive followed all advice that ive been given but nothing works.

Re: waterproof coat
The reluctance to go into the crate may be that she has begun to associate it with you going out. Have you tried putting special treats in it when you are in the house with her so she doesn't just associate it with you leaving?

Re: waterproof coat
Hi Reuben she goes in the crate during the day when she wants to have a snooze without being told. She isnt left very often and for no longer than a couple of hours when we have to go shopping. Its first thing in the morning after she has been out in the garden for a toilet break and when we go out, she used to be as good as gold. I would love to leave her out but last time we did she shredded the carpet in the hall and wee'd over our bed. Its like she's just trying to prove a point, she tore her blanket to shreds this morning because she wasnt let out at 5am when she wanted to be to be honest I don't know what to do with her. Ive tried treats, toys etc to keep her amused nothing works x

Re: waterproof coat
As Hayley says, it looks like you've got a teenager on your hands. Can't help I'm afraid as Bacchus didn't go through a stroppy phase. But from what I've read on here it will pass, but it's back to basics.

Re: waterproof coat
Hi everyone, have gone back to basics with sasha over the past week or so, and shes responding already. Weve had a good day with lots of cuddles and praise for her being so good, although she still seems to lose her hearing once she has seen a ball to play with (and I mean any ball, poor chold over the park nearly lost his football) but she did listen when I used my stern voice. Shes at this very moment curled up on my lap fast asleep and snoring giving me a dead leg. Its been hard eork especially when she gives me her sad eyes but hopefully its working shes a smart dog xx

Good luck with that one. Problem is, you have to get everyone you meet to not encourage it and dog lovers always want to spoil a puppy. Plus this seems to be a staffies natural behaviour when greeting people. I gave up because it disappointed people to deprive them. I just put him on lead now if it's some wierdo who doesn't like getting covered in muck etc.
