Change of Heart!!
After only being on this site for a very short time I have already re-set my attitude towards buying a staff - my initial thoughts were it has to be KC reg and blue or black, nothing else would do!! Very quickly I have realised that there are lots and lots of beautiful dogs in all different colours and sizes and so many rescue dogs looking for homes. Whilst I am glad to have changed my outlook I do not know if this is going to make my search easier or maybe even harder with my options now being so varied... lol

Re: Change of Heart!!
Thats great its opened your mind to all your options. Personally I think the main things are if its going to be a family pet, or for show. Its great your actually thinking about it, doing some homework so many people think that its just 'so cute to have a puppy', and that its easy, and don't think about the realisation! Its a full time job!!! But so rewarding. x

Awww thats so nice to hear!!!!!! Im looking to the future here but when im ready I hope to foster through my local staff rescue. I think its the responsible way to get our beloved dogs out of this mess there in im sure you will not be disapointed.
You have a sbt rescue in scotland and I know they are full to the brim so give them a call the dog is waiting for you im sure, just wish more people would come forward.
Thanks for your comments about duke my 2 dogs are my world ><

Have e-mailed the scottish sbt rescue and an english sbt rescue as I would prefer a puppy that had been brought up with my kids - await their responses... Will contact all my local rescues but wouldnt mind having to travel and hope something comes up soon x

Ahh thats amazing to hear! I'd definately recommend getting a Staffy from your nearest Rescue. At first it will probably be more work but you'll get there and I'm sure you'll find a puppy suitable for your family! My Poppy is a rescue dog and she's brilliant! Since I gave her a loving home, it's made me feel as if I've done something REALLY good. She's my first Staffy and in the future I'll definately be sticking to this breed! These dogs are just amazing! Good luck hun!
And seeing as some of you mentioned fostering, I'd love to do that but I dont think I'd be able to give the dog away afterwards as I'd surely make a bond with it, I'm just a proper dog lover! Ahh.

You cant help loving them, I think its the eyes! It is sad that there is only so much that you can do but this site definitely opens peoples eyes to the needs of rescue dogs! I got an e-mail today from sbtrescue asking for more information re my home family etc - excited at even getting that lol!!

Re: Change of Heart!!
I always remember what the lady at my local rescue told me with I got my first dog (at age 4), and couldn't decide which to bring home from a family of strays.
"A good dog is a good dog. It doesn't matter the shape, build or colour. The looks are what everyone else see's, but it won't be that part of the dog that makes you love them."
For me, that's always really stuck. Gender and colour choices are awesome if you're willing to wait around to find them, and everyone has a preference to be sure. If you pick a dog based on looks, I won't poo-poo your choice. After all, you spend more time looking at something then acting with them, and if you want a gorgeous conformed dog, more power to you. The breed can go a long ways in the public eye with good looking dogs in the right peoples hands.
Right now, I went to a breeder, as where I'm from doesn't have rescue staffys due to Breed Specific Legislation. During the meeting, the breeder made us pick a gender/colour preference, but he said the same thing "If your first choice comes up, you'll get that one, but if there are any unclaimed dogs, and your choice isn't there, you'll get the offer for these. A good dog is a good dog."
I told him the same thing you just realized, and I hope everyone else learns too. "Looks are the smallest part of the battle. Give me a dog to love, and I'll love it."
My choice for a blue male didn't show, and I take home my black female on the 24th of June.
With a little research into gender qualities beforehand (so you know if you could handle the subtle differences between male and female), and the ability and experience to see the amazing animal under each coat colour, you chance of finding your perfect compadre increase drastically, and more importantly, your companions chance of finding you does the same.
