ox heart?
Tried to give Diesel her first raw offal meal today which i knew wouldnt be easy coz i tried to give her raw kidney awhile ago and she spat it out, so when i was in morrisons i noticed the had diced ox heart which didnt look as slimmy so thought id get that to mix in with her liver and well she ate the heart and spat all the bits of liver out at the side of her bowl! Which isnt like her coz shes usually a bucket that wolves down whatever is in her bowl! An i proper mixed it all about and added a wee touch crushed garlic to make it smell more appetising
Could a substitute the liver/kidneys for ox heart? or has it not got the same nutrients?
the other bonus about the diced heart a noticed she actually chewed each bit before swallowing which isnt like her, she usually hoovers!

Re: ox heart?
I personally wouldn't be adding offal yet as she has only been eating raw since Friday I'm sure? I'd wait a couple of weeks before adding any in, Bailey has been on raw for 3 weeks and hasn't had much offal yet, a few bits smaller than a 5p!
The thing with raw is taking your time and not adding too much variety too fast, wait till she's fine with chicken, then add another protein in slowly such as lamb etc.

Yes, take your time. Offal is really strong flavoured & it's a bit of a shock sometimes!
P.S. Heart isn't offal, so you can't substitute it for liver/kidneys/spleen etc.

I wanted to say that but wasn't sure! Is heart classed as muscle?

didnt think it would be the same, but just thought i'd check.
Ah right cheers i'll just keep her on the chicken just now then, maybe a good thing she didnt eat the liver! lol she did eat the heart though so hope she's ok with that! Silly me!
I've given her cooked liver and kidney in the past as a wee treat and she's been fine with it. so hopefully fingers cross no runny bum tonight! am working tonight so my oh can deal with that heehee

Re: ox heart?
Yes, heart is muscle meat, although you shouldn't give too much of it because it's very rich.
Offal is any organ that excretes enzymes, I think.

Don't worry I was the same, then jumped in too fast and stopped! Done a bit more research and feel a lot more confident this time round.
Just go slow and everything will be fine

Re: ox heart?
Well just had her out for her evening walk and she's defo not feeling any kinda icky because of the liver/heart, she was more hyper and mad than usual!
Usual night time walk is just round the streets, unless my oh is with me coz i dont like taking her down the dog park in the dark myself, but 40mins in she just started taking a total burn-out darting and running about like a mad man! (woman)
So i reluctantly took her to the school field, which is like a total swamp, on the way home, minute i took lead off she was off like a rocket, and we then had a good old game of chase! Nearly fell on ma a** several times but least she got all that energy out!!
She's still not done a poo (tmi) so at least its not went straight through her either
