Staffie Strength Empty Staffie Strength

Post by jo garnett Thu Nov 28 2013, 20:37

Hubby walked the girls tonight in the pitch black in a familiar field. At the other end of the field 2 other dogs and their owner arrived. The other 2 started barking and then suddenly all 4 were in the middle of the field having a full on fight. Hubby and the other owner dashed to the middle and separated them. Our 2 went on their leads no problem. The other owner couldn't calm his down as they were growling and snapping. The 2 men then recognised each other as work colleagues!! The other guy couldn't apologise enough - he has 2 little yappy Spaniels that absolutely hate all other dogs. But............. even though it was the Spaniels who caused it, our 2 could have taken them apart had they wanted to........ Makes you think - could have been nasty. Staffies are SOOOOOOOOO strong!

Pleased no harm done , my arms are 3 inches longer than when I got the dogs through lunging at lamp posts etc , if they catch you off balance you have no chance , I remember in the summer running down a hill on the way back from a walk and follishly shouting "squirrels" big mistake Sad

They are strong dogs, I once bumped into my Mum & Dad whilst just coming back from a walk across the fields, my Dad hold of the stick Rocky bought back with him and was trying to get hold of it, "Jeez he's all muscle isn't he" my Dad said, "Oh yes" Laughing

Hardly need reminding - it's something I think about all the time. Massive, powerful jaws and a short fuse - not the ideal combination. This situation that you describe is really difficult - where your own dog doesnt start it, but gets set upon by some feisty little yapper. If the other dog starts a scrap, mine is always game and he sure knows what to do. I'm always on the watch for potential confrontations like this because, if the yapper got injured, ideas about who started the scrap would be of little interest. And obviously, it's a terrible thing for another dog potentially to be injured, even if it did bite off a little more than it can chew.
