foxtail stuck in nose! Empty foxtail stuck in nose!

Post by Nor Cal Wed Nov 27 2013, 23:57

Bacon got a foxtail stuck in his nose on our walk today. Its been a nightmare since its the day before a holiday so all the vets in town are closed. Drove one hour to the nearest emergency vet.

Hes under anesthesia right now so they can scope it and see if it can be removed. Hopefully they can pull it out. They told me that worse case scenario it could have traveled into his lung and then its major surgery. Praying that is not the case!

Will know more in an hour ir so...

Well, they did a scope and did not find the foxtail in his nose throat, or ear. So he either sbeezed it out, or it made its way to his throat and he swallowed it, or it made its way down ti his lung. Doctors think most likely he swallowes it because he is not sshowing symptoms of it being in his lung. So now i will monitor over next couple of weeks for any possible symptoms. Poor little dude! Hoping he swallowed and it passes.

Thanks all. He slept well through the night. No sneezing or coughing. Hes breathing normally. Only thing is that hes a tad bit weezy and has sneezed a coupe of times but i think its normal since the inside of his nose got cut up pretty good. Im sure it will bother him a bit as it heals.other than that He's his usual self for now and in good spirits.

The worst part is that we probably wont know if hes ok for awhile because supposedly you only start to see symptoms if the foxtail travels through his cavity and forms a cyst or an infection.

This sucks so much! I just have to remind myself to stay positive. The signs so far are good.
