Rocky is starting to scratch
Rocky has started to scratch his head near to his left ear causing a small bald patch. He started this yesterday - he is 15 weeks old Black /Brindle.
I am pretty gutted to be honest after losing my Zac a few months ago it has brought back a few emotions as Zac also had skin problems that lasted most of his adult life.
I hope to solve the problem myself but if things persist I will take him to the vets.
I bought him a new bed last week - could it be that? He eats cooked mince with James Wellbeloved so I think his diet is ok.
I have put some Hydrocortisone cream on him and may try Piriton.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Rocky is starting to scratch
I wouldn't use the Hydrocortisone cream until you know exactly what the problem is!
It could be an allergy of some sort, but it could also (bearing in mind his age) be puppy Demodex.
If it's demodex, he may well get over it as his imune system strengthens, but you should really have a word with your vet so that you can get a proper diagnosis.
In the meantime, if you can get hold of some coconut oil, this may soothe any irritation.
Is it just his head, or are there any other spots?

Have you checked his ear? It may be possible there is something foreign or an infection there given the itch is so concentrated on this one spot.

I have some flea treatment that the vet gave me a few weeks ago but I didnt think he would need it. We dont have a cat so could it be fleas?

Re: Rocky is starting to scratch
Check his coat, especially around the neck/ears and base of the tail. If you can't see either the fleas themselves or the little black eggs that they lay, then it probably isn't fleas.
If it's a spot on treatment, then using it now could make any irritation worse. Best to find out exactly what it is first.
And don't worry - pups often get these little irritations, but it doesn't mean that he'll have skin problems for life.
