Putting Weight back on Empty Putting Weight back on

Post by brettj83 Fri Nov 15 2013, 04:10

Hi all, Jabba had his cataract surgery a week and a half ago & he lost a bit of weight & muscle because he didnt eat for a few days while he was at the vets. He is eating fine now but he looks so skinny. He was a solid little unit before but he looks boney & he has lost muscle tone. Is there anything else i can give him to help him put weight on or should i just feed him a bit more. He eats a good quality dry kibble supplemented by toast & what ever else he can beg off me!
Cheers

I would just feed him a little more until he's put it back on

I'm going to disagree!

Just feed him what you've always fed him. If you're feeding a complete food then you feed according to the dog's ideal weight. If that's a few pounds heavier than he is now, then he'll put weight on.

If you increase his food, you've then got to decrease it later, and he'll just feel hungry!
