feeling down!
Hi all, how is everybody? :-)
Just wanted to make a quick 'rant'. I was watching the news tonight and they announced the new 'harsher punishments for owners of dangerous dogs' or something, surprise surprise, got a nice pic of a beautiful staffie as they read out about dangerous dogs. I'm really upset tonight,it's just not acceptable. Where are the labs and chihuahuas? Had my fair share of run-ins with aggressive breeds, that AREN'T STAFFIES!
rant over :p

Re: feeling down!
Here they call them Pit Bulls and many homeowner's insurance policies (required) will not cover a homeowner who ones one. They lump SBTs in with ABTP, Amstaffs, American Bulldogs and a host of other breeds. It isn't fair, so I choose not to watch that kind of thing. Gets me too steamed!

Re: feeling down!
I didn't see the news today but that sounds so typical of the British gutter press.

Re: feeling down!
Dont ever believe what the press says its all smoke and mirrors. The leader of the gmt union which covers posties etc and is a big advocate of the new laws is... a rescue staff owner..but that never gets mention by the press.nothing wrong in punishing the trash that treat dogs bad and let them run riot. In fact it could be good news for us as they may be less likley to own a dogs in the first place. This has a knock on effect that we can defend the breed better without dipshits ruining everything.

Re: feeling down!
I saw that too. I told the family as they missed it. I was fuming too!! Always, ALWAYS a staffy. Once again, pics of three staffs popped up barking and looking aggressive, and I thought it was about dogs that kill people....I take it they were meaning ALL dog breeds??? So why only show pics of staffs?? Once again, the media reinforcing the ridiculous stereotype that they are all vicious killing machines, Grrrrrrrr:-(

Re: feeling down!
I agree the press dont help at all with the pics they put up...if only they would show how human friendly a staff is and listen to people like battersea. I still get * with the daily fail and its pic of a sneezing staff they keep rolling out...

Re: feeling down!
I bet they rolled out the old pic of the stafford in mid sneeze? That's the one that always gets front page in the newspapers!

Re: feeling down!
I havent seen that one (rolls eyes)! It was film footage of three, the second barking and wearing a leather staff harness. It was a very stereotypical set of images. I have nothing against the staffy harnesses by the way, I dont wish to offend anyone, but you know what i mean.

Re: feeling down!
The media! Aaargh!
30 years ago, when co-incidentally I had a Dobermann, Dobies were the devil dogs of the day. Staffies weren't heard of! Whenever a dog attack story was published, it was inevitably accompanied by a photo of a "snarling" Dobie (or Rottie - they couldn't tell the difference!).
Just wait - another "scary" dog will surface soon to take over from the Staffie.

Yes, it's been GSDs, Dobes, Rotties & BNow Staffords (and all bull breeds). The ones that seem to be taking over a bit are Akitas and GSD x Husky/Malamute.Lynda wrote:The media! Aaargh!
