The dreaded fireworks

Hi. I know it's been a cente of conversation in the past but my little girl gets totally stressed out during the firework season. She pants and paces consistently and every effort to give her a safe place to hide is to no avail. I have just ordered adaptil to see if it helps and wondered if any one else has tried it and if it works. Xxx

This will be nels first firework seasons so any advice on this topic would be a huge help

I use it for car journeys (the spray) and the plug in when we went on holiday in a caravan incase she got stressed with being somewhere strange, I think it works, have you thought of a thunder shirt?

We use the adaptil spray and collar for Rocky, there were some fireworks going off the other night which he didn't really take any notice of - he only had the collar on that night too. We were very happy with how he behaved.

I haven't tried a thunder shirt. Can even get her to keep a coat on. I'm going to try the adaptil diffuser and see how she gets on. It upsets me to see her so stressed.

Ruddy fireworks are a pain to our pets, I am lucky as it doesn't bother Vinnie but anything is worth a try, hope it works Julie xx

i will be trying the spray along with her thunder shirt as well,to be honest the shirt did'nt work that well for sash last year but i'm hoping with the spray as well it might work better

ignore the fireworks, don't make a fuss and turn up the TV. do not in anyway show the dog your are either bothered by the noise or worried about them, that includes not petting them if they look up after a bang.
in essence try and keep an "everything is normal" feel around the house.

I feel for anyone who's dog stresses in this season they start now and go on till January....

I've tried turning up the tv and not making a fuss even ignoring her behaviour but it doesn't work. Fireworks don't bother me. But my dogs stress does. The adaptil arrived today and plugged in. Everything

Yeah I understand how stressfull it can be to see the dog stressed out. Luckily I got both mine when fireworks were around so as they were still in inprint periods me ignoring the noises worked. How ever its still a fine line as last year I was out with marley when it was all going off and I patted him... I kid you not the change was instant and he became very jumpy. It took a while for him to get over it as well.
The person I quoted said it was the first time there dog will have experianced fireworks and I stand by making everything seem as normal as possible as the dog will be looking at the rest of the pacs reaction to what is going on.
Adaptil is good, my ex used it when her boy had his cruciate ligaments done to keep him calm and to stop him charging about while he recoverd the first few days of post op

This will be Kuchar's second "firework season" and I did last year, and am doing this year, exactly what Nathan suggested above. So far, so good - it worked for my last dog too. But my first dog was terrified and I know how horrible it is to see them suffer like that. I made the mistake of fussing her and comforting her, which did no good at all.

Great news! A positive result and good to know. Just wish fireworks were restricted to one night a year. Im a big fan of them but not at the expense of upsetting animals. Just think how wild animals feel...

I agree Nathan. If I ruled the UK I would restrict the setting off of fireworks to two nights a year - 5th November and 31st December, on pain of death for anyone who breaks this rule. Then we'll all know where we are, and can deal with our animals accordingly.

We have tried everything with densil mainly for his car stress - thunder shirts/adaptil just don't work. the last thing we tried was zylkene and rescue remedy and this brought his stress down a notch but not completely. We have already had fireworks and despite acting normal and turning the tv up loud we have found that he barks at them and wants to get outside, so will be trying zylkene and rescue remedy tonight to see if that helps.
