Re: Starting raw tomorrow
If shes not been fed raw before it might be a little bit of a shock to the system. I would start feeding it over a week and first day have most of her normal food with a little bit of the meat later on at a different time (meat digests slower), preferably chicken or white meat, the next day a little more of the meat etc until you are 100% meat. If you want to do raw forever from now you will need to read up about what else she will need other than just the meat. Cow legs are fine but she wont eat the bone most likely, just the meat.

Correct me if im wrong, all she needs is mainly meat with equal proportians of bone and offal. Am i right our is that to simple.

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
I think its pretty much right, I understood it to be roughly 80% muscle meat which includes heart, and 10% of bone and 10% offal, of the offal half should be liver, I should be starting next week too, keep getting delayed (am nervous!)

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
did you read the links i posted for you on your other thread?
Yes the bone in a cows leg is too dense for them to eat, but you can let them strip the meat off and then remove the bone once it's bare.
The ratio is 80% meat 10% edible bone and 10% offal half of which is liver, however you don't need to super exact on them
Also it's recommended to start with chicken only when starting a raw diet, i can't tell what's in the carriers so sorry if that is some chicken!

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
lovely they should help you start
You ask all the questions you want - theres no stupid questions!
Ahh ok well just stick to chicken for the first week and see how her stomach is coping and once you get good consistency stools then look at adding another meat in, and so on!

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
I'm sure Ella and Caryll will put you right on feeding raw, we do have other raw feeders here too so please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I have never fed a dog a raw diet so wouldn't have a clue sorry.

Glad its going well
I think that means you should feed a little less bone, but I'm no expert, just started Daisy on raw today!

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
It's the other way around. Commercial food digests slower than raw meat.Hayley wrote:If shes not been fed raw before it might be a little bit of a shock to the system. No, you're giving her too much bone. Try and cut down on the bone a little & you should see an improvement.Hargar wrote:Great, eating everything i put in front of her. I havent got any offal yet but im trying to get hold of some. Her poos are chalky white colour is that rite?

Re: Starting raw tomorrow

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
Arrr the many colours and consistency of dog poo It's amazing when you start feeding Raw how obsessed you get with their poo.
How is it going?
Have you seen any differences in appearance/personality in your dog since switching?

Re: Starting raw tomorrow
That's great. You wouldn't think that a bit of food would have that much of an effect, but I noticed a massive difference in Blue when I switched.Hargar wrote:She has almost completly stoped scratching and has so much more energy i cant keep up with her.
