Keeping warm at night
What do you guys provide for your babies to keep them snug at night time?
Bruno sleeps downstairs in a crate on his own, which he seems perfectly happy with. Now it's getting colder and especially because we don't have heating at the moment, when we go down to him in the morning he is cold.
He has a rectangular cushion bed in his crate right now, we're going to put his blanket in with him too but I don't know how warm that will keep him. He LOVES being under the covers and as soon as I lift the duvet for him when he comes into our bed in the morning he's under there like a shot. But if I tuck him in at bed time in his own bed surely he'll untuck himself and get cold again.
Is it worth giving him a hot water bottle (just a warm one - not as hot as I'd have it) or would that make him too hot? I also worry about him chewing on it! I was also thinking about a new bed for him, maybe something of an igloo design or something with sides that he can snuggle into.
What do you think?

Re: Keeping warm at night
I dont know about the water bottles, it could be chewed! I know Pixee would chew that to bits. Pixee sleeps in our bedroom in her own bed. Recently we have brought her a new one, her old one has been washed so many times, it was just worn out, her new one is plastic not furry like her old one, but I have added a soft mat, a soft blanket and another softer linning, so its lovely and soft to lie on, over the top as I did with her old one, I lay a quilt over it but tuck it in on the outside so its like a tent for her, she can still poke her head out and see us, but its lovely and warm inside for her. 9 time out of 10, she is still in there when we wake up, the 1 time she is not, she will wake me up to tuck her back in , then once our alarm has gone off, its straight into our bed under our quilt

Darcy has an electric blanket Rosie that I zip into her bed, it just gets warm enough so they're comfy not hot

How about a hoodie? That's what we use for Dempsey in the colder months.

Re: Keeping warm at night
Simple
I just take The Tedster to bed with me, turn the duvet back and let him pick his spot then I climb in and pull the duvet over us. Very often wake up to find him parked full length against my back.
I felt so mean turfing him out of bed at 5:50am on Sunday morning for Formula 1 GP. He looked comfy, head sticking out from under the duvet with paws either side of his muzzle that I had to make him scrambled egg on toast for breakfast:)
Regards
Simon & The Tedster

Re: Keeping warm at night
Biscuit's crate is covered in blankets on the outside too, so it's slightly more insulated and she doesn't chew so she also has a hot water bottle! Plus a billion duvets and blankets to snuggle in Got her a little knitted jumper too for when it gets really cold!

Re: Keeping warm at night
Rocky sleeps on our bed with hubby and me, he does go under the duvet in the morning when it gets colder though and snuggles up to my legs.
The igloo style bed may be a good option as it will stop any draughts, so long as he doesn't get too warm in there.

both mine sleep with me so they keep me warm rather than the other way around during the day in the winter they like to snuggle into one of those big travel blankets. they do plenty of twizzling around until they get a nice little hollow to bed down into

Think I may need a trip to the pet shop then... I'll get him a jumper to wear at least until the heating is fixed!

Re: Keeping warm at night
have you thought about getting a proper crate cover to help insulate it?
My boys don't use their crates very often at all as they sleep in bed with us but i bought these:

They are brilliant!

Vinnies crate is covered right over with 2 blankets also a very snuggly bed inside I do put a hot water bottle underneath the bed sometimes in the evening but take it out when he goes to bed. It just takes the chill off.

For sure the only way any pet can survive these insane winter temperatures approaching is to get in bed with mummy and Daddy

Bruno has a snuggly hoodie now and I've started putting my fleece throw over the crate when we go to bed. I'll get some photos of him in it today if I can, it's too big for him at the moment but he'll grow into it!

Re: Keeping warm at night
If i lived on my own then Rocky would sleep with me so Rocky is in a crate. It has a couple of fleece blankets and cuddly toys in it and it is covered with a dark fleece and he seems very content.
