I can't take it anymore
Alfie's farts stink. He can clear a room with no troubles and sometime they are so loud it makes him jump .
We have worked out that it gets worse when he has his antler or plays with toys and takes in more air but its the smell that makes you want to jump out the window to get some fresh air. We now have a plug in air freshener on while we are at home and I am worried that one day I will se the cockatiel full off his perch after being gassed out.
All joking aside what can we do? We have tried charcoal biscuits and found out today that they contain very little charcoal. We will change his food from lamb and rice to chicken or duck. I know there are many suggestions but has anyone got any good ones that have worked?
Cheers
Iain

I'd say that something in it just doesn't agree. What other 'fkavours' do they do?

Oh dear Alfie, definitely his diet I would say, but I don't feed dried so cant be of much help.
I hope the air is fresher soon

They do a few other flavours like duck or fish so I thinks we will be trying the duck one next once the 15kg bag runs out.Caryll wrote:I'd say that something in it just doesn't agree. What other 'fkavours' do they do?

as they are my kids I sort of go back to those schoolboy days when you experience that proudness from your own , so far been able to resist the urge to save one in a pencil box though

Re: I can't take it anymore
Have you mentioned this issue to the vet, there may be some other underlying cause of the smelly farts. Does he appear to be digesting his food properly - sorry only one way to know this and have a look at his stools

Full health check has been done even had his glands squeezed and vet said he is fine. I recon its his food so will have to wait and see.Kathy wrote:Have you mentioned this issue to the vet, there may be some other underlying cause of the smelly farts. Re: I can't take it anymore
Can he get out often enough to do his business? When my dog makes the air a bit thick, I take it as a sign that he needs to (pardon my french) do a dump. Usually this is the case, and he will then come back indoors empty, fragrant, and content. Apart from that, I would definitely look at his diet and change (gradually) to another brand to see if he may find it easier to digest. Trial and error?

Re: I can't take it anymore
I hope you find a diet that suits Alfie and solves the problem!
I do sympathise Iain, many years ago when I knew even less about doggy nutrition than I do now (thanks to this forum) I had one particular Doberman bitch who was a perfect lady in all ways except she had Alfie's problem! They went off with a terrific bang that made her jump and look round at her bottom "What the hell was THAT!". But even worse was the stench (like rotten eggs - sulphury). And here's a tip to try - keep a box of matches by you (cigarette lighters don't work, it has to be matches you strike against the box). When the bang happens or the stench, strike a match and let it burn in the near vicinity. Well it worked for me! (I was nervous that the whole room would go up in a sheet of flame [methane you know] but that never happened).
Do let us know how you get on with changing his diet etc and Good Luck.

If he's been health checked and all is good it's got to be something he's eating? Hope changing the food works for you, if not buy a gas mask?!!

Oz had the same problem when we got him from RSPCA but we changed his food to Naturediet and he has been fine since ( well except when he has certain treats which seem to set him off)

you need the charcol podwer/granuels and follow instructions on the tub, marley sometimes gets this and the granuels work very quickly and never fail. He had it terrible when he was on medication from vets even the baby walked out the room but after one meal time with the granuels in it soon stopped, never bothered with the biscuits though x

Pixee use to fart awful when we first had her, she cleaned the room, then she was on dried food, which didnt agree with her. We went through a lot of dried food, tried the raw, then found Wainwrights trays, never looked back since and she is a lady now
