Neutering Gone Wrong (warning willie pics lol)
So Den had had his stitches out after his neutering and we noticed these lumps, sorry for graphic pic lol
Took him to vet + he said he'd had a reaction to internal sutures
Then to cut a long story short, lumps burst and he had to have an emergency op last night, I thought we were going to lose him, I was distraught
This is what it looks like now
TBH knowing this I'd still have him neutered, there are too many unwanted puppies out there not to
It's taking a lot of hard work to manage it, in 52 years of dogs in my life I've never seen this before and the vet said it's very rare but I just thought I'd share it in case it happens to you and yours, it is manageable

Poor Den, that looks a bit horrific. Hope he is feeling better soon loads of rest and TLC.
This isn't something you could have foreseen so don't beat yourself up too badly

All op's are a big deal, sorry to hear you had problems (but I am pleased you haven't thrown it as a horror story), its a small chance and yes not nice.
Wishing him a speedy recovery. Xx

Re: Neutering Gone Wrong (warning willie pics lol)
It's not a horror story lol every op is a risk. I would 500% still neuter, this is very rare, just unfortunate
What I'm saying is don't let it put you off neutering, it's created a stronger bond between our feral pup and us, it's hard to explain and of course it would have been better if it hadn't happened, but if it happens again we now know what to expect and how to deal with it
Den had such a bad start in life and really doesn't deserve this, and I'm sorry if I sound arrogant, but I'm so glad he's with us as he couldn't possibly be loved and treasured more and he'll have whatever it takes to make him better

Re: Neutering Gone Wrong (warning willie pics lol)
Poor you Tbag for being so scared, which was very understandable. and poor Den for having this rare and unexpected complication.
Do please try having a lampshade on him to stop him chewing at his stitches. I know it's a horrible thing and he'll hate it, but better that than having him bursting open the stiches again.
Big s to you and Den

Re: Neutering Gone Wrong (warning willie pics lol)
Hope Den feels a little better today
Maybe try one of these collars as an alternative to the plastic ones, I know this dog doesn't look very happy about wearing it but it may be a bit more comfortable:

Awww, poor Den! I saw your post on the GSD forum, but hadn't seen how bad it got. Did the vet say it'll definitely clear up now?
I hope he hasn't charged you extra for the treatment?

No, it isn't his fault, but it would have been a bit churlish to charge for the follow up problems, wouldn't it?
Poor Den. How are the other three with him at the moment?

Re: Neutering Gone Wrong (warning willie pics lol)
Just to let you know he's absolutely fine now, drains came out then stitches on wednesday. We kept his collar on for a few extra days and he's just finishing his ABs. Lumps have gone, you'd never know anything was wrong apart from the scars.
It was a struggle when the drains came out, he might be little but my God he's got a temper lol and is very strong for his size
So I've got my ickle puppy back now, back to his extremely norty little self lol xxx
