food bowl stand

i'm looking for an new one

and the member who hasn't got one you should be thinking about getting one there is less strain on their leg joints and neck.

Yeah I have heard they are good  

I have a raised bowl, got one after Moo's arthritis result as it was recommended, I think Ella mentioned it wasn't great, I still use one but have a swanky one  

it stop later life problems

I don't use one, didn't realise there could be problems   What type would you recommend

Not from the same site. Apparently it does strain there joints and this houses her water and dinner and is higher (makes less mess too lol .

Claire has a good one for riley ill ask her where she got it from tommoz. I dont use em tbh they both inhale food rather than eat it so I had to get a sectional bowl to slow them down a bit.

We have a nice one for Bruno when he's older. It's black with chrome legs and came from pets corner. Very smart

Oh really, some things can be so confusing, risks if you do, risks if you dont!

there is no need to use one in a healthy adult dog, especially in deep chested breeds bloat is to nasty to risk

my dogs been eating from for the past 9 year none of them had bloat

yes not every dog will have or get bloat, but i'm not increasing the risk of it by using something they don't need in the first place.

my xena start having a lot of pain in one of her front legs and having an rise bowl stand probably gave an longer life

It's fair enough if the dog is ill or can't bend down to reach their food, but i did say that in a HEALTHY dog i would never ever recommend one.

if they was that bad i'm sure they would stop selling them

you mean like bakers, bob martin products, cooked dogs bones, raw hide......

Selling it has nothing to do with how safe or appropriate the product is.

I don't use one, a raised food bowl , I thought, was only used for very large breeds ie the Great Dane as it reduces strain on the neck, legs etc. Mia is raw fed so takes the meat, bones out of her bowl to eat. Would be pointless for me personally.

It's strange. Some reports say that using raised bowls lessens the chance of blost & some say they increase the chances!

I bought one after Dempsey's brush with bloat & he hasn't had a repeat - but maybe he wouldn't have anyway?

It's common sense though really the dog has a raised head so much easier to take in larger amounts of air as they are eating and drinking.

This was discussed recently on a great dane forum and none of them would ever use a raised bowl, they said there was a high correlation of bloat and raised feeders, and a lot of studies debunk others and do say raised bowls are dangerous

We lost my last gsd to bloat at 7yrs not something I would ever forget or want to go through again
Skye gets feed on a small step stool occasionally but usually picks her food out of the bowl
Buster just flings his bowl around so that slows him down lol

My Dobermanns were always fed and watered from bowls on the floor, and they were much longer legged than Staffies . I always thought that bloat could be avoided by excersising before the main meal, and not directly after, which is what I've always done, and after all in the natural state a dog doesn't eat at head height.

Another thing to worry about ....

I think the main thing is to ensure that food isn't given within an hour (at least) either side of exercise. Carnivores generally eat lying down (once the prey is caught & killed) so eating from a bowl is quite alien anyway.

Completely agree! the boys always lie down to eat
