Dog coats - cold weather
Hi everyone
What are your views on dog coats for staffies in the really cold weather? My boy hasn't had one for the last two winters and has got on fine, especially when running about, but he does shiver when wet and cold bless him.
I did buy him one a couple of years back but he ran into some bushes and came out without it and I never saw it again lol!
Do you think they need them? I hear conflicting views some saying they have natural fur coats and once running about they warm up, but coz staffies are short coated dogs, I am wondering whether to invest gain for the really cold and wet weather... hmmmmm??
Thanks
Lis

If you google Danish Design you will find stockists as I don't think they have there own site to buy from, I get Moo's off ebay, but I think pets at home may sell them Xx

Rocky has a Muddy Paws quilted coat for when it is windy and cold/wet. It's like the one in the link below:

Re: Dog coats - cold weather
Dont need for my two as they are double coat and have fured feet but riley there best mate has a tarpaulin lol. Just need to keep the wind and wet out to stop the chills setting in. He is a big lad at 39kg but feels the cold well before my two and found keeping the wind off him was best thing to do.he looks like a lorry trailer running about the park but hes well happy and snug in his coat.

We have the Danish design too, waterproof part is great for if it's just raining, padded quilt bit great to add in for those really cold days Rolo loves his.

The 2 in 1s are the ones I'm considering too, so he can have the benefit of not getting wet (he hates the rain lol) and also the extra warmth for when the real bite gets to usSazzle wrote:It does seem to be very popular! I have the wax one but may get one of those 2 in ones next!

Re: Dog coats - cold weather
My foster stafford has a hoodie.
My English Bull cross has a Danish Designs (I think) quilted coat.
The DD is far more waterproof and takes seconds to put on.
Getting the hoodie on Captain Weemo, the foster, is like trying to put sausage meat into a sausage skin, without the sausage machine - takes ages.

Pixee has the two in one and loves it. She also has a shocking pink waterproof rain coat, which is not as good as the two in one, but I am not allowed to take her out in the pink one when on a walk with hubby

Re: Dog coats - cold weather
Dempsey has four types of coat. He has a hoodie for indoors in the colder weather (our central heating is crap), a high viz jacket for night time walks and light rain, a rain coat and a warm winter coat.
He doesn't fuss if it's cold & he doesn't have a jacket on for walks, but I just like to make sure he's not cold!

I found a Danish design coat on Ebay and thought I had measured him correctly as the measurement guide specified, but when the coat came it's unfortunately a little too big! It is very amusing though.
Thankfully you can dress Dizz in anything and he doesn't bat an eyelid, although he did look rather unimpressed when we were all laughing and taking photos.
See what you think

Re: Dog coats - cold weather
I just invested in a Fox-town 365 pink Adidas logo hoddie for nel found it in eBay bit of a fight to get it on but does keep the wind and rain of her and she had no problems going out in the rain. Thought I was the only one that had bought a coat for my Staffies and do get some funny looks when walking her as I am a big tall skin head with a Staffie in a pink hoddie but she is a cute little girl and needs to look the part lol

Lisa, your Dizzy looks so handsome in his red coat, Pixees black two in one is abit too big, but having said that, it does keep her dry more so round her bum and does not get in the way of toilets either.

I think Nel must look well cute in her pink hoodie and I think you completely set a precedence walking down the street together... very cool!

I am still in two minds about whether to re-sell it and get him the smaller size. My other half said keep it as it will keep his bum/tail warm and dry. It is funny when he wags his tail though as the whole back end of the coat moves

Re: Dog coats - cold weather
I saw a young lad ( chav ) in Macclesfield yesterday with a staff wearing a pink coat , unfortunately I was distracted from his positive attitude by the fact that he was walking his girl ( admittedly very well behaved sitting at the side of the road etc ) off lead across the main road through Macc
