Introducing Diesel
Hey,
Recently picked up our Staffy. I'll blame the missus for his name (apparently every second Staffy is called Diesel). We've had him 2 weeks. He's not backwards in coming forwards!! Very bold and full of energy. He's very smart and seems pretty quick to learn things, besides toilet training. We also picked up our Amstaff on the weekend, his name is Tank.
At first Diesel wouldn't leave Tank alone. Biting, standing over, constantly focused on him and finally cocked his leg and pee'd on him (he's only 10 weeks old, jeez). After speaking to a training tried a few things and he's only half as bad now but still need to supervise when they are together.
Tank doesn't have much interest in fighting though he will eventually have enough and put Diesel in his place. We have a dog behaviorist coming this weekend to help with him and puppy school starts in a couple of weeks.
I'm sure I'll have people telling me I shouldn't have two males together. The reason I thought it would work out is I grew up with two male dogs that happily lived together. They were desexed so I realise I'm going to have to do that also. Every trainer I've spoken to says with work they'll be best mates. It's been a bit of a nightmare to start with but the wife and I are prepared to put in the work.

Re: Introducing Diesel
8 & 10 weeks. Prepared for the work. They're getting better everyday, I can now leave them alone for short periods of time (I can see them but they can't see me). This morning they were able to hang out normally about 50% of the time, the other 50% it was rough play.rescuestaffords wrote:Hello and welcome.

Got a dog behaviourist coming this weekend to assess and give guidance.
I don't seem to be able to post pics from my work computer as all files can only be saved as PDF's on it and it seems the site won't accept PDF's. I'll try from my iPad.

Re: Introducing Diesel
Is this the best way to post pics. I thought I'd be able to post a pic straight into the window not a link that takes you elsewhere?

Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and I!
The boys are absolutely gorgeous, fab pics!!!
The best way to post pics is through photobucket, you have done it all right, but for them to appear in the thread, you just need to click on the image through photobucket, scroll down to the box in right hand corner 'Links to share this photo' and click on the 'IMG' link, it will automatically copy, and you can paste it here! Hope this helps!

Re: Introducing Diesel
Wow they both look amazing ;-)
I have a 16 wk old blue staff almost identical to yours lol.
He plays with my girl friend mum jack Russell who is 3 wks older and had done dice 9wks old almost every day.
They play fight a lot sometimes a little bit to aggressive but have got a lot better in the last three wks.
I think it's a dominance think and once the peaking order has been a stablished thy should be just fine.
I was told to brake them up when it got a bit out of hand give them 5 minutes part then put them back together.
I hope this has helped

Re: Introducing Diesel
Yes very similar looking, by looking you'd think they were siblings!! Diesel is coming up to 12 weeks old this weekend. Time for shot number 2. He and Tank (my Amstaff 10 weeks old) are best buddies now. Sleep close to each other, hang out together and play together. They do sometimes get aggressive with each other, I intervene the way a mother dog would but this behaviour has died down dramatically.Echoid wrote:Wow they both look amazing ;-)

Looking forward to being able to take them out once their shots are all done.
