tip of her tail bleeding
Hi, we have just been on holiday for 10 days so Lou has been in kennels.
We picked her up and as soon as we got her home we noticed that the tip of her tail was bleeding. I rang the kennels and they said they didn't know anything about it and they checked her kennel and there was no blood in there.
Our house keeps looking like a slasher movie, every time she wags her tail and bangs it on something, blood splashes everywhere.
I have just taken her to the vets but they said there isn't a lot they can do as bandages tend to fall off tails. It isn't bothering her though, she isn't licking it or biting it which is good, don't want it getting infected.
Do you think its a complaint against the kennels?
The vet said to try to keep her calm to stop her wagging her tail so much so she wont bang it, which is easier said than done, she is the giddiest dog in the world. Any ideas on what I can do to help with the bleeding? xx

Re: tip of her tail bleeding
I'd just bathe it with salt water & try to keep it clean. Just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get infected.
I doubt you'll be able to do anything about the kennels because you can't prove they've done anything negligent - after all, she could have injured it just wagging it.

Re: tip of her tail bleeding
Ask you're vet for a syringe, take it apart and discard the plunger bit. You can put the end on her tail and secure it with bandaging such as vet wrap. She may try and get it off but if it stays on it will mean the plastic is hitting things not her tail.
She may of chewed it whilst in kennels or knocked it when she was so pleased to see you!
If you're worried about infection I would bathe it regularly.
Try not to worry, I'm sure the blood everywhere looks worse than it is

Re: tip of her tail bleeding
With tail injuries, some people wrap the end of the tail in cotton wool and bandage that with elasticated or vet wrap bandaging. Ideally, the end of the tail should be left uncovered to allow it to breath, but allowing the bandaging to form a sort of cone protruding from the end of the tail could protect it against knocks and bumps.
Hope she feels better soon!

Re: tip of her tail bleeding
Thanks everyone.
The vet didn't seem to want to bandage it...
When we come in from being out, even if its an hour, she will be giddy so the best thing there is to let her get her giddiness out whilst in the garden then there is nothing for her to bang it on...
With regardss to kennels I do think there is nothing they could have done if she has banged it against the kennel.
its just annoying, If its not one thing its another...we were only at the vets 2 weeks ago, just before we went away.
Its a good job we love her. xx
