hip replacement op
hi all just got some bad news , our staff x went down in a field whilst chasing a ball a couple of mths ago, limped for a few days so we took her to our vet he prescribed rest and thought she may have damaged her crucial ligament in her hind led , so it was house rest for 5wks then fri it was xray day , and was shocked with the outcome she needs a full hip replacement op as both ball joints are knackered she isnt 2 yet , bad breeding in the past the vet said , we have her booked into a specialist for monday at 1pm she is fully insured but im worried sick about the op if he will do it

Re: hip replacement op
It must have come as quite a shock and so terribly young. Operations are really successful now days, I haven't been through it but I am sure everything will go ok, it sounds like the only answer and at least being so young she has youth on her side in recovery, hugs from us

Re: hip replacement op
I'm sure the operation will be a success, procedures and medications are far better now than even 10 years ago.
Please let us know how things go.

Re: hip replacement op
the xrays found 2 issues firstly that she does need a hip replacement op and secondly the specialist was worried about the slight limp she has so while doing the hip scan did her left hind leg as he was convinced that the hip problem shouldnt make he limp, he was right she has a torn ligament so he has decide to treat the leg first as thats whats giving her the pain , so she has to be rested for 2 weeks without any drugs then will operate to fix the problem

Re: hip replacement op
thanks ,its going to be a long 4 weeks has she has already had 6 weeks house rest , i now take her for very short walks early morning and last thing at night ,the rest of the lime she is in her crate or dog bed but is not happy being confined , be glad when she can have the op to sort her problem out the first op will be for the crucial ligament in her hind leg ,then when thats healed it will be the hip replacement op if the vet thinks its necessary at this time

Reading through this thread it must have been a really anxious time for you but am pleased to hear that all has turned out well. Did Mitzie have the hip replacement in the end ?
