Has she had a season yet? If not, I wouldn't even consider spaying her just yet. I'd wait until she's about 2 years old so that she's physically & mentally mature.

What have you done so far to get her to walk nicely on the lead?

I agree you should wait until she's had a couple of seasons and has matured before getting her spayed, have a look at this for lead walking Smile

Iv spoken to few vets who all said 6 months. Then owners have said dnt!!!! So confusing cos i dnt know at all. My mum just wants to have her done so she wont get caught or anything.

Things have been much better other thn slight biting again.
We had an arguement with a man fishing the other day tho

vets tell people to spay at that age because the womb/ovaries are not functional, thus there is less chance of complications in their care. For example, an older bitch who has had a season is always possibly pregnant and a pregnant dog who is being spayed turns into an abortion and spay which is a lot more dangerous and costly for the vet, another scenario is that the bitch is in season but the owner and vet miss it, making for a harder and messier spay. vets want the most simple and most time effective op, so they can make the most money.

also, if never left unsupervised, she won't get "caught" and when in season she should be kept on the lead.

Don't wanna sound ignorant but why would you wait? Why not get them done at 6 months?

sorry to jump in but was wondering what the actual reason is for waiting till maturity ? does getting it done effect there growth or health in any negative ways or is it purely prefferance

Growth and health can be affected by spaying too early, they are still young and need to mature, they fully mature around 2 years that is why it is recommended to get it done around that age Smile

I took sasha to the vets at 10 weeks for last jab and the vet told me to get her spayed at around 20 weeks before her first season as long as she is big enough which she is. Im sure the vet wouldn't suggest this type of op if it was to be of any harm to sasha and stop her developing properly. Im not going to breed sasha so have no problem with getting her spayed and there are lots of male dogs living in the street which may cause a problem when she is in season

Yes my dog will be desexed at 6 months if its good enough for PETA and the RSPCA it's good enough for Henry, that being said I think everyone does what they think is right for their dog.

I guess the vets promote spaying because there are so many unwanted puppies around they are hard work well sasha is especially when they go through the chewing, destructive and stroppy stage which sasha is going through now thats when people give up on them because they are not the little cuddly bundle they brought home at first and then theres lots of un reputable breeders out there that breed for all the wrong reasons ive got no intentions of breeding sasha so will be getting her spayed as soon as medically able to Smile
