Spay wound
I got my 10 month old staffy bitch Dutchess spayed 3 weeks ago. All seemed to be healing well till today where it's started to look a little red and a little weepy (clear fluid with a tiny bit of blood). Not swollen or anything. Today is a Sunday and tomorrow it's bank holiday Monday. Will give the vets a ring just to check if they are open or not but I don't think they are.
I've been giving the wound a little clean with antiseptic and it doesn't seem to hurt her and she is eating, drinking and behaving fine.
I don't know whether it's related or not but a suture at the top of the wound was sticking out slightly last week (I think they used dissolvable stitches) causing that part of the wound to swell. I was going to take her to the vets but before I could the suture disappeared and the wound started looking nice and healed.
Has anyone else experienced this? What do I do until I can get her to the vets?

Re: Spay wound
I had this with Lola, all that rest and relaxation they are supposed to do never happens, does it? I took Lola to the vets, they inspected and just told me to keep an eye on it, I'd advise you pop to the vets to settle your own mind, but so long as the wound hasn't opened fully your pup should be ok

Re: Spay wound
Thanks for the replies.
It looks a bit better this morning, there's a bit around her fur where it had weeped in the night and dried but I have cleaned that off and it doesn't look too bad. I'm not too worried about it opening up as it has been 3 weeks since the op and should be healed enough not to come open (I assume). She has been running round like a loony in the garden this morning and has had something to eat and drink as well as a wee and poo. I guess It would be a trip to the emergency vets which is a few miles away if she was showing signs of being unwell but I think for now I'll just leave it and keep my eye on it until our regular vets opens tomorrow.
Thanks again guys xx

Re: Spay wound
I hope so too, I didn't sleep too well last night worrying lol silly I know.
We are quite lucky because she will let me look at it and clean it, she rolls on her back and lets me do whatever I want. I can't tell but I don't think it's hurting her so that's a good sign xx

Re: Spay wound
We have had this with Saffy too. We're six weeks on today and it still hasn't settled down completely. As well as the weeping which has really only just stopped Saffy has had red lumps on the scar which they said was a reaction to the stitches not dissolving quickly. I did insist on antibiotics about a week afterwards as it was very red and swollen but the vet never seemed that concerned.
I would pop her in for a quick check if you're worried, you should be able to see the nurse for free.
Pleased to hear she's full of beans today and its not bothering her

Re: Spay wound
I would give the vet a quick call in the morning and explain what has happened and what you have done so far, see what they say.
