Time for the neutering.
Well Zeke is now 8 Months old and we can certainly tell he is getting his 'Male' hormones as he just can't stop humping everything and I know this is partly dominance but he is just crazy! we think getting him done is the best option for us as, although its not a fix, we are hoping it will calm him down. Well he is booked in this Thursday to get neutered and I am so worried on how to deal with him after his little opp as I know he will be in a lot of pain. With him having stitched I know he won't be allowed off the lead and he will only be on flexi lead walks but if anyone could give me any advice on how to deal with the aftermath of him being done it would be muchly appreciated. I am also worried that if Zeke does not get a good amount of exercise he goes nuts and is just full of energy. Any ideas on how to lower his energy??
Thank you!
P.S Feeling very guilty. :-<

Re: Time for the neutering.
Most people recommend you wait a little longer before neutering but its your choice.
The recovery honestly isn't that bad, I have only had girls but after the initial grogginess wears off then they have bounced back by the following day. I didn't walk them for the first few days, just play calm mind games, after that I did do very gentle/short lead walks.
I hope all goes well Thursday and do let us know

Re: Time for the neutering.
I really wanted to wait until he was around 1 and 1/2 - 2 years old before we got him done so that he could fully develop but we think doing it now is for the best and well if he doesn't turn into the hulk staffie or grow muscular thats fine with us xx

Re: Time for the neutering.
Well i don't neuter full stop, so will not recommend such a young dog to be neutered.
IT's up to you, but he may come out still humping everything in sight, it may be a learnt behaviour and neutering will have no affect what so ever!

Frankie was clingy after 'the op' when I picked him up. The next day you wouldnt of known he had had anything done! I just took him for short walks on the lead. Frozen Kongs are also good. You could do some training indoors too. I think it's meant to be hot this week so maybe he can do some lounging around in the sun.
Neutering Is a very personal thing that a lot of people have different opinions on. Aslong as you're happy and comfortable with what you're doing that is the main thing. Hope all goes well.

Re: Time for the neutering.
Zeke is a rescue puppy and I am far too young to be a Grandma to any puppies so better to be safe than sorry. I find that neutering can calm them down x

Re: Time for the neutering.
Because of the massive health benefits to keeping them entire, plus there is no unecessary risk of the GA.Robyn2202 wrote:Thanks Mandz and everyone. Can I just ask what is everyones problem with getting them neutered?
It's not hard to keep an entire dog and not let them have pups.

Re: Time for the neutering.
Bacchus has been a " humper" from day one but I it is becoming much less frequent as he matures. He hardly ever humps in the house, mainly when playing with his pals but I'm sure this is more a dominance thing than sexual, so doubt that neutering would make much difference. I'm not against neutering per se but the jury seems to be out with regard to the pros and cons.

Re: Time for the neutering.
I am sure there is a link to an article on here that goes into the pros and cons of it all. With Otis he will have to be done at some stage as one of testicles haven't descended, but we chose to wait to allow him to mature, but that was just our preference.
As for the humping that isn't something I have experienced either with Otis.
I hope everything goes well

Re: Time for the neutering.
I would always rescue too, so any another pets of mine would be spayed/neutered before I bring them home. You may find the link below very informative:

Re: Time for the neutering.
I had Marley done and it stopped his urge to roam to an extent. he's also less confronting/posturing to other dogs.
But despite being done last September he still knows what to do, Laska is near the end of her season and I rushed in to take a pan of the heat only to come out and find the below before me.... little git and look at that guilt on his face..
