Collar Size
Hi, I'm a first time puppy owner and I'm a bit unsure about the collar and harness size for an eight week old Staffy.
Any advice very much appreciated

Re: Collar Size
you will need to measure his neck to get the right size, best to get one which has a lot of room for adjusting as they grow out of them so quick!

I'm a little embarrassed that I never thought of that! Thank you very much, that's just what I'll do

Re: Collar Size
Don't worry about it I often wander around the house looking for my car keys when they are in my hand
Just get yourself a really light collar from Pets at Home , no strength there yet and it will not feel so daunting

Thanks, Dave. Material will be a lot lighter for the little guy, I'll do that too

Re: Collar Size
Pop into the shop and try a few on for size, Jolleys do them too.

Re: Collar Size
I was hoping to have them before his first injections (he's only five weeks, so he's still living with his mum and siblings).
Would it be safe to take him on a bus trip into town at 8 weeks? At such a young age I'm a little worried about him in a busy city environment - a place I can't quickly remove him from if something went wrong (I don't know anyone nearby with a car). I was hoping to socialize him closer to home until he's around two months old?
Sorry, this is a bit more than just asking for collar advice!

Re: Collar Size
Hiya,
We have our pup at the moment and he's 7 weeks old. He's been into town twice with us so far and coped REALLY well. He met a lot of people and saw lots of sights and sounds, it's really great for their socialisation. The more the better, and as long as you're comfortable with it then the sooner the better too. Make sure he's not picking up on any worries or nervousness you're feeling though, because that might affect his feeling about the situation too. You don't want it to be scary for him and if he feels like you're nervous he'll think there's something to be nervous about.
Make sure you're happy and confident and it'll be a great experience for him.
Be prepared to be stopped every five seconds by someone wanting to say hello, and you'll hear lots of "Awww look at the puppy!" as you walk by haha.
Bet you can't wait to get him home!
PS. We got our collar from p@h, it's the smallest size they do and has lots of growing room.

Re: Collar Size
Thanks! Sorry I haven't replied sooner. Haven't stopped to catch my breath.
He seems a bit nervous about cars and things, but I click and treat as they pass by and the food does distract him.
He's very clingy though and cries when he can't get passed a closed door, even if I'm in the room. It doesn't have to be the one that leads to outside, so I know it's not because he needs to toilet. He seems to cry a lot for no reason, or finds reasons to cry (like closed doors) unless he's distracted with toys or food. These are normal things for a new pup, right? I think he suddenly feels lonely because his mum and siblings aren't around? I guess he's one of the more slower ones to adapt to a new life.
I did so much research into getting one and have bought a lot of positive reinforcement training and raising books. But a bit of advice from someone more experienced is always reassuring!
