Food to avoid

here friends, somethingsto avoid when we're feeding the fur kids. the worst dogs foods on the markets, some deaths have come about from eating these brands.

Purina seems to be a manufacturer to avoid then. I wouldn't give any of them to Rocky

Im just finnished reading that and nearer the top it says canned food is better than kibble? more protein in it and such? This i dont agree with.. i think kibbles are much better for dogs than wet canned foods.. not only are they better because they have crunch (better for teeth) but also tinned food takes twice as much of to get the same amount of nutrition. Strange!

Hmmm yes that is strange!

This is one of the reasons I go raw with the pooches! So many bad things out there!

I'd say it should be taken with a pinch of salt - it's a very opinionated article, rather than statistically based.

i was a bit confused to read that canned food was better than dry,i thought that canned food was full of water? 

It is, which is just as much a bulking agent as wheat/maize/corn. The person who wrote the article is obviously a very pro-raw person (not that it's a bad thing), but a lot of it seems to be personal opinion rather than fact.

thanks Eleanor,i would'nt switch sasha's food any way,they should stick to facts though not just their personal opinion when writing these articals.

Agree 100% would like to have seen where they get the facts on dog deaths from and what scientific analysis was carried out to prove it was the food. Ive seen some hysterical posts along the lines of " ijust gave my dog this food and now he has the runs" must be a bad food then yeah? Well no not necessarily if you didnt gradually change. And canned is 75% moisture which made me question it more. Sounds very anti kibble person to me tbh and although some arnt the best food out there they certainly aint dog killers per say. Imagine giving a bag of nuts to 1000 people most will survive this seemingly innocent food yet a few might actually die from them. Now imagine giving a certain dog food to millions of dogs, could you be 100% certain at least a few might react adversely to a particular ingredient? I wouldnt be my house on it.

That's why fact/opinion mixing should be done very carefully. When I write articles or pages, I make sure I stick to one or the other - never both. Otherwise, it's so easy to confuse the readers as to which part is actually statistically correct and which part is just opinion.

For instance, the list of 15 worst dog food brands - that's opinion, not fact. The author has also not divulged what criteria he or she used to reach the conclusions they did. It seems like it was based purely on price and corn fillers.

Also:

'The best diet you can feed your dog is a Raw diet'

Opinion. There are hundreds of factors which would need to be taken into account in order to accurately judge which type of feeding is actually the best: age, gender, breed, size, activity levels, appetite, immune system, digestive system, etc.. So many different variables involved. It cannot be said without a doubt that one food type, above all others, is the best for all dogs.

I'm a little foggy on the comparison drawn between dog dietary needs as opposed to humans, as well - 'DOGS ARE CARNIVORES: following the long ancestral history as canids. Pet Food Companies have people believing otherwise since humans eat veggies and fruits so beware'. Humans are omnivores; dogs are carnivores. Not entirely accurate or relevant to the article.

Also a little iffy on the red highlights the author has placed on supposedly 'bad' ingredients. Chicken is among them. Yes, some dogs can be allergic to poultry, but that does not make it a bad food.

Aaanyway, rant over!  

As an opinion-based article, it isn't too bad, though I disagree with some of it.
